Advertisement Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Hi rsolomon, Take a look here Digilux 2 filters. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wda Posted August 4, 2009 Share #2 Posted August 4, 2009 Yes, a UV, but only to protect the larger-than-average Summicron front element. But it is a controversial issue; several owners spurn their use. My own trials did not confirm the suspected optical degradation suggested by others. So, on balance, I prefer the extra protection. Listen to others and make your own choice.
Overgaard Posted August 4, 2009 Share #3 Posted August 4, 2009 Never used any of the filters on this or any other lens. I use the lens shade as protection, which as so far cost me two lens shades on the D2. It's an economical camera to replace, and on other more expensive lenses I trust Leica would be able to replace a front lens if needed. I just love the look of a nice big front lens too much to hide it behind a filter

jvan01 Posted August 4, 2009 Share #5 Posted August 4, 2009 There's an ND Filter from Panasonic that's inexpensive and has it's uses Any difference in quality between the Panny 8X ND filter and the Leica 8X ND filter? I guess you're just paying extra for the Leica logo.

lesh Posted August 5, 2009 Share #7 Posted August 5, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Any difference in quality between the Panny 8X ND filter and the Leica 8X ND filter? I guess you're just paying extra for the Leica logo. The Panasonic seems of reasonable quality, since I don't use it every day and it cost less than $30, I'm happy with it. I dunno about the Leica version.
krabat Posted August 5, 2009 Share #8 Posted August 5, 2009 I use the Leica UV filter to protect the lens from dust and rain drops. The only issue is that there may be some undesired reflections if the light comes from a very special angle. Nevertheless, this happens in very rare cases, say one or two out of thousand. A more important thing is that it seems to me that the flash light doesn't have a blue tinge with the UV filter (which can happen without the filter even if the WB is set to "flash"). Ah, in the bright sunshine, I often use a polarisation filter that makes the sky looking dark blue. Regards, Peter.
