Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 14, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 14, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well i had to take a break for a half hour. So I had to try this. Background the DMR with the 50 F2 summricron, M8 with the 50 1.4 Lux asph with the cut filter on. I shot at 5.6 for all of them just to see what is going on. Let's remember as you look at these the R9 profile in C1 is just flat out dead on the money. The M8 in C1 will need a new profile with the cut filters. It's pretty darn good though i have to admit, i do see the differences in tones and such but it ain't bad either. Now for the fun part the same camera will be on the top and bottom . Guess who it is. Just give me 10 minutes to post them all at once. Thanks Guy Enjoy and have fun with thsi. There nothing special just quickies a full blow out will be done later Welcome, dear visitor! sinwen Posted November 14, 2006 Share #3 Posted November 14, 2006 Well I think the M8 are both bottom pictures, they are warmer and a bit sharper if you didn't manipulate. Could it be due to the lens, to moving ? let us know. Thanks for posting Michel
sinwen Posted November 14, 2006 Share #4 Posted November 14, 2006 Same thing with these two !
marknorton Posted November 14, 2006 Share #5 Posted November 14, 2006 My vote is for the bottom pictures being the M8 as well...
suse Posted November 14, 2006 Share #6 Posted November 14, 2006 I think the M8 is the first one in each. If I'm wrong I'll eat my 5D.
andym911 Posted November 14, 2006 Share #7 Posted November 14, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) guy I vote that M8 is the top pictures. andy
robertwright Posted November 14, 2006 Share #8 Posted November 14, 2006 Well I know which one I like, but this is sort of a little like audio testing, it is very subjective. They both are good. I "think" the bottom of the pair is sharper. I also "know" the bottom of the pair is also darker a hair, the midtone is lower. So that affects my perception. The darker one has more "body" so to speak. Providing matched pairs is extremely difficult, just like in audio A/B switching. volume differences account for a lot. Nice to see the M8 has that little extra bite that most of us have been wanting from all the other manufacturers but have not been able to get. thanks again
Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 14, 2006 Share #9 Posted November 14, 2006 Remember there is a differnce in lenses too so little hard to tell Summricron on the R and Lux on the M.. I will wait a little for the answers pretty darn good and frankly i had too double check the data on the car.
rfleica Posted November 14, 2006 Share #10 Posted November 14, 2006 m8 on top:confused:
hrosell Posted November 14, 2006 Share #11 Posted November 14, 2006 My impression is that the upper pics belong to the M8 due to the more vivid and "greener" foliage.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 14, 2006 Share #12 Posted November 14, 2006 It is very subjective and i agree but you won't have to eat the 5d which actually you may want to do anyway. the top set is the M8 and the bottoms are the DMR . Now go back and look at them again and you may pick up on it a little easier. There both pretty darn sharp
Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 14, 2006 Share #13 Posted November 14, 2006 My impression is that the upper pics belong to the M8 due to the more vivid and "greener" foliage. That is the dead give away because of the IR cut filter
suse Posted November 14, 2006 Share #14 Posted November 14, 2006 The deciding factor for me was highlight control. There's a patch just above the garage and inside the garage which isn't quite as good on the top ones, imho. There's also more highlight on the balls. Ok, bring on the fake Picassos... robert_parker Posted November 14, 2006 Share #15 Posted November 14, 2006 Guy I could work out all of them but the first one of the house - I actually didn't beleive that was the M8 - I though the cut filter would have flattemed it a little more - guess I should have looked for the detail !! Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 14, 2006 Share #16 Posted November 14, 2006 Yes we certainly need a new profile to go with these but right now it is very workable and can produce some great results. The nice thing for me owning both is hopefully there will be little difference between them so i can use them side by side on a shoot and not go crazy back and forth. Just need to get it all in place . But i am full steam ahead on the M8 and waiting on the fix
sinwen Posted November 14, 2006 Share #17 Posted November 14, 2006 So I got it all wrong :-))) viewing on a screen a low res jpg it is a bit of a coin tossing... interesting anyway !
peterv Posted November 14, 2006 Share #18 Posted November 14, 2006 My impression is that the upper pics belong to the M8 due to the more vivid and "greener" foliage. I agree. Nice quiz! Peter
paul_barker Posted November 14, 2006 Share #19 Posted November 14, 2006 Very interesting, thanks for posting. Quite easy to think the top was DMR. Reminds me of your original tests between DMR and 1DSII on FM where the warmer shots were the DMR. But Guy, tell me you haven't put your Christmas dec's up already! hrosell Posted November 14, 2006 Share #20 Posted November 14, 2006 That is the dead give away because of the IR cut filter Actually that's what I thought from seeing your pics in the other thread when experimenting with the IR cut filter. The most obvious signs happened to be those "illluminated" greens. Also believe that thanks to you, Sean and all the others others we are getting closer to our deliveries despite everyone will want a 'definitive' camera and/or some guarantee from Leica that they will take care of these early bodies, free of charge, of course.
