Hookeye Posted July 30, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 30, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Could somebody please tell me why this lens seems to be unavailable? E.g. at Red Dot Cameras in London it is currently listed as: 'Not available at the moment' followed by 'Expected delivery end of December' ?? Thanks a lot! Advertisement Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 Hi Hookeye, Take a look here What happened to Summilux 24mm?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
noah_addis Posted July 30, 2009 Share #2 Posted July 30, 2009 That is troublesome. If there are customers Leica should be making the lens available to everyone who wants one. Maybe they're too busy with the S2. In the US I'd get in touch with David at Dale Photo. But I don't know anything about availability in Europe. I will say it's worth the wait. It's an amazing lens. adan Posted July 30, 2009 Share #3 Posted July 30, 2009 Hmmm- B&H in New York has it in stock. That December delivery date makes me think you got an old version of their web page - that was the original expected delivery date after PhotoKina LAST YEAR (2008). Either a browser cache glitch, or their web person was too lazy to create a new page when they ran out of stock and just put up the old "not available" page without paying attention. (at the moment I get server error message trying to connect to Red Dot anyway).
Marty Posted July 31, 2009 Share #4 Posted July 31, 2009 I've been waiting about two months and as far as I know I'm still not first on the waiting list, so patience is advised. The US might indeed be your best bet as they seem to get more of everything, earlier.
Hookeye Posted July 31, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted July 31, 2009 Thanks, guys. I have been anticipating the 24 lux because I have a 21 elmarit already and no 24mm. But there is no hurry. I openly admit that for me it would just represent another nice toy. I think I am well beyond the point whereI can blame my sup-optimal photography on lack of equipment rather than lack of skill, imagination and experience. Maybe the wait does me a favour in cooling down my 'must have it' fever . But I am still curious about the apparent un-availability... Guest zwicko Posted July 31, 2009 Share #6 Posted July 31, 2009 ffordes has those in stock (https://secure.ffordes.com/index.htm). Robert White lists them as "currently unavailable" too. Even Meister Camera in Hamburg takes pre-orders only... Cheers, Zwicko
RockyIII Posted July 31, 2009 Share #7 Posted July 31, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just checked several websites of Leica dealers here in the US, and the lens is readily available. Rocky
marknorton Posted July 31, 2009 Share #8 Posted July 31, 2009 Ffordes in the UK are showing it as in-stock. Lecia really do need to sort out their product availability.
Guest Posto 6 Posted August 3, 2009 Share #9 Posted August 3, 2009 There seem to be many 21 and 24 Summilux lenses on eBay recently- all quite discounted, so far unsold, and offered by reputable dealers. Perehaps these are already becoming a bit difficult to shift?
stevem7 Posted August 15, 2009 Share #10 Posted August 15, 2009 Just got both of these today from Leica for testing/review and shot some low light stuff today. I can say this after only a few hours with them. They are the most amazing wide angle lenses I have ever used. I am blown away by these lenses. I will have the full reviews up within 2 weeks but I am going to have a blast shooting them all next week in Chicago. 21 Lux wide open - iso 160 24 lux - wide open - iso 1250 21 lux wide open I added the vignetting you see. I will have all kinds of shots in my review. Low light, street shooting, wide open, stopped down, portraits, etc. Now...how can I come up with $12k? Steve: Even after you come up with the $12k you only need one lens since 21 and 24 are just too close... Just keep the spare $6k for something more groundbreaking

stevem7 Posted August 15, 2009 Share #14 Posted August 15, 2009 Which one did you buy Steve? Neither. I have them here for a week so I can write up a review on my site and then they have to be sent back. If I bought one, it would probably be the 24. wda Posted August 15, 2009 Share #15 Posted August 15, 2009 ffordes has those in stock (https://secure.ffordes.com/index.htm).Robert White lists them as "currently unavailable" too. Even Meister Camera in Hamburg takes pre-orders only... Cheers, Zwicko They claim that on their Home Page. But they also show the 50 'Lux in stock but not when I inquired last week. They couldn't even get a delivery date from Leica UK. So websites should be taken merely as a guide as to prices unless goods are definitely shown as 'in stock'. Even the home page announcement probably refers to the date of first delivery. In fairness, I think Ffordes secondhand listing is more accurate by the very nature of one-off items being listed. Riccis Posted August 15, 2009 Share #16 Posted August 15, 2009 So true! DId you keep the 21 or 24 or both? I'm still on the fence but I am definitely adding a 28 cron if I decide that for my needs 21 or 24 are too wide.

Riccis Posted August 15, 2009 Share #19 Posted August 15, 2009 A 28 Summilux would be wonderful. Yes, but it will also be very large... I don't think we'll see new lenses anytime soon as the M line is pretty solid... OK, maybe a new 35 lux but that's it
