haris Posted November 14, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 14, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I read comments about M8, black/magenta issue, filter needs issue and else. And I can't wonder are you peple guitly too. Yes, I understand people who say "if spend 5000EURO/USD for camera I want it working OK, I don't want to buy additional filters to get image quality I should have in first place". Then I remember threads in old forum and new about when M8 will arrive, how it would look like, then remember stories about visiting Solms, trying to didscover something about M8, calling and E_mailing Leica people asking when M8 will be, even remember when someone wrote he saw someone getting out from Leica factory in Solms with camera on tripod, trying it and then returning in building when realising he could be seen with what supposedly was new camera. Like spy movie... So, after all that pressure (you, members of forum) put on people in Leica to hurry with M8, you are now dissapointed (more or less) with it's fault. You couldn't wait few more months, maybe year to have faultless camera, no, you have to have it now. And now, when you have it, you are not satisfy. Could you have more patience, wait a little longer, and be 100% happy? Yes, this is my defense of Leica, I know they don't need it, but I want to give it. You could blame yourself a little to make pressure to Leica people to hurry them and not letting them to completely test and finish M8. Just to think about, nothing important I wanted to say. Advertisement Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 Hi haris, Take a look here Dont' you think you are guilty too . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
whorg Posted November 14, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 14, 2006 I am not sure that anybody really "demanded" that Leica release this product in the manner you describe. Most folks on this board are more than willing to wait . . . quite patient in my book. Granted, the anticipation was at it's peak . . . but blaming the consumer base is off mark . . . just my two cents. ~jk
alexr Posted November 14, 2006 Share #3 Posted November 14, 2006 I never went to Solms or emailed Leica. But yes, i did go in the shop at certain intervals to ask for news. When they told me: "they are working on it" i was satisfied. Knowing they were trying to make the m8 was enough. And of course that implies they would have to take all the time they needed. I would call that a show of interest and encouragment to go ahead in the programme. Not excessive pressure. The members of this forum do not decide when a new model or a new lens comes out. If they did, we would have one every month probably!
clayh Posted November 14, 2006 Share #4 Posted November 14, 2006 Are you serious? It's our fault Leica released a camera that doesn't perform consistently even to point-and-shoot standards? alexr Posted November 14, 2006 Share #5 Posted November 14, 2006 Also please remember that for years, when we asked "can they do it" the answer has been "No, they can't at present". We accepted that without any huffing and puffing. Only human to get a bit excited when they told us "yes they will do it".
Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 14, 2006 Share #6 Posted November 14, 2006 Look, Leica made the splash at Photokinia and said November. What do we have to do with there time frame. Yes i wanted the camera and so have others for years, being romantic about it is one thing putting into service is another
grober Posted November 14, 2006 Share #7 Posted November 14, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) What Guy said: AMEN, Brother! Leica: Fix the bleedin' thing and don't make me foot the entire bill if I need to buy a mess of IR filters. I'll need to buy FIVE different diameters. -g
Vivek Iyer Posted November 14, 2006 Share #8 Posted November 14, 2006 I am a bit disappointed and hence will not be buying the current version of the M8 (unless Solms would get rid of that ineffective IR cut filter altogether). $5,000 for a 10mp camera (however cute it may be) is too high a price to pay. If I were to buy one at this price, i wouldn't do that based on any online "reviews" and will not be complaing about filters and such minor things. Regards I think I hear what you're saying but my guess is that the pressure to release was more internal (inside Leica) than external (customers). andy

There were times when that would not even have got you a 3 Mp camera...And they sold.. Actually the M8 is not overpriced compared to the competition, if it can be called that being DSLR's or the 'film M's.
B&W Posted November 14, 2006 Share #11 Posted November 14, 2006 My guess is that the only real pressure for the time of release of the M8 came from the shareholders…..
