hermannhkg Posted July 26, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 26, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) film production ceased altogether ? What will be the total financial lost with the existing film camera owners ? What will be the total financial lost with the film camera production companies ? In production wise and in market sales wise, will DC be able to fill the gap ? Will all film users switch over to DC or just quit ? More and more film types are being withdrawn by film production companies these days, so the prospect of us running out of film is inadvertently looming around the corner. What are your thoughts ? Regards, Hermann Hi Hermann, As long as there are photographers who want to buy film there will be manufacturers selling film. Even if the number of film users continues to drop there will still be small specialty sellers serving the market. In a parallel hobby I see this in Hi-Fi: Even thought digital in the form of CDs, downloads, and the like, has become very popular, LP record sales are still very good. The same is true of vacuum tube electronics. If anything these two items are going through a golden age of sorts with quality better than at any time in history. I think we have little to fear. Kind regards, Jeff
treeplanter Posted July 26, 2009 Share #6 Posted July 26, 2009 film production ceased altogether ? Hopefully I won't hijack your thread, but after seeing this contraption (made by a retired Kodak engineer in Australia), I honestly think that film will be around somewhere, someplace for some time to come: DIY film - a set on Flickr Jim B. NZDavid Posted July 27, 2009 Share #8 Posted July 27, 2009 A horrific vision of a post-Apocalyptic world where the Cybermen reign triumphant. Whatever next? Seriously, they could probably cut production down to six types of film: fast and slow and saturated varieties of color print and slide & B+W. But I think there will always be a demand for specialty film.

StS Posted July 28, 2009 Share #10 Posted July 28, 2009 The selection will be smaller and the costs a bit higher. However, the machines are still there and written off. My guess would be professional films to be developed in standard processes (E6, C41) or for self processing will stay.
