I thought shutter cables only affected dynamic range, resolution and autofocus doesn't work when you use a cable... but I had no idea about contrast. My jeweller didn't tell me anything about that... wda Posted July 27, 2009 Share #24 Posted July 27, 2009 Go to your local photo dealer and try one or two. They cost little, so buy one which looks strong and comfortable to hold. One other point; some have a little locking device which is handy for long time exposures. Avoid really cheap ones because they can be a poor investment. I ordered a bulb release with a long (20-foot) cable in hopes of shooting somewhat remotely, since I can't figure out how to set the damn thing off without my finger being within 12 s of the shutter release. It does not thread smoothly in to the Leica button. Bummer. It is definitely of a different pitch than what was industry standard. Amy help? Refund please.... Every single cable release I own fits it - Nikon, Rowi, El Cheapo etc - they all fit. Did you check your bulb release on a different camera? I have a Nikon Standard (old style) cable release and the one time I was going to use it, on a trip that I planned on doing some night (long exposure) shots, I left it home. So I went to the nearest photo/camera store and bought another. The cheapest I could find. It worked without a hitch. The threads on both the camera and the cable release are tapered, cone shaped. So they are easier the find the center of the female part on the camera and they thread in easier. Some cable releases have larger male ends and only thread into the camera a little while others have smaller male ends and will thread in farther. But they will all thread in and work. We discovered that you have to lightly press once to turn on the camera and then press again to take the picture. Unfortunately, we did not figure that out at the time, so my son would press, nothing would happen, then he'd press again taking everyone by surprise.
