Printmaker Posted July 30, 2009 Share #21 Posted July 30, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) M8, 28, 50 and/or 90 and lots of ziplock plastic bags. You'll probably also want a few soft lens cloths to dry your Leica. Have a great trip!
Advertisement Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 Hi Printmaker, Take a look here M8 coast to coast. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
norbertnl Posted July 30, 2009 Author Share #22 Posted July 30, 2009 As to the water I've been thinking of the Ortlieb Aqua-Zoom, as Forum member 'exile' suggested. Plus I got my local photo dealer to collect little silica gel sachets for me ...
chris_tribble Posted July 31, 2009 Share #23 Posted July 31, 2009 I do think we can get a bit precious about the M8's delicacy... I've used mine in the English Lake district in winter ever since I've had them - and I've just got back from the 90% humidity / torrential rain of Eastern China in July... My main strategy is to always take a small umbrella when out in the great outdoors + to carry the camera + a spare lens in an old padded Lowepro bumbag. This means that the camera's always to hand and in the dry (even when carrying a pack) + you have an instant canopy when you want to get a shot in the rain (as was the case with the example below)... norbertnl Posted July 31, 2009 Author Share #24 Posted July 31, 2009 Chris, the Lowpro bag looks convenient. When you go to the Lake District: how important do you find it to have a light tripod on you? Are the early-morning / late-evening motives worth the hassle? Best, Norbert
chris_tribble Posted July 31, 2009 Share #25 Posted July 31, 2009 Norbert - for trekking I don't bother with a tripod - the image above was taken at ISO 320 @ 1/500th with the 28 cron asph. There have been times when a monopod might have been useful (especially when using the 135), but it's certainly possible to get good images without support using the M8 (IMHO). I can see why you could need a support - but maybe a beanbag's the best solution then - and just look for that convenient dry-stone wall! The image below is all I have to hand at the moment using the 135 for landscape work - whatever its artistic merit, it's certainly sharp enough for my purposes (ISO 160 @ 1/1500th) .... and I've successfull hand held this lens at much lower speeds (as in the 100% crop from the one of the China shots - ISO 640 @ 1/45th)...
