joeseedm8 Posted July 21, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 21, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I have an M8 purchased November 2007, I use it every day however the metal top with the viewfinder & shutter release button is coming apart from the body at one side, the side with the shutter release button. I have gaffa taped it to keep it working. I spoke to Leica UK service this morning, they have not come across this before & want mre to send the camera to them for repair. I was hoping some kind person may have a solution. Regards Iain

jaapv Posted July 21, 2009 Share #2 Posted July 21, 2009 The second one today, and afaik the fourth over some years. Do you happen to use a Thumbs Up? Anyway, it is just a matter of tightening a few screws.

Regards Iain It is a 5 minute job for a skilled person to tighten one of the 2 screws that is holding the top plate, unless the screw is broken or the thread in the top plate is ruined. Let Leica do the job for you, do not try it yourself. Hans
joeseedm8 Posted July 21, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted July 21, 2009 What is a Thumbs Up? & what screws do I tighten?
akiralx Posted July 22, 2009 Share #5 Posted July 22, 2009 What is a Thumbs Up? & what screws do I tighten? No idea about the screws, but Thumbs Up is a metal device which you clip into the hotshoe which gives you support for your right thumb to stabilise the camera when shooting. It nearly replicates the film advance lever on film Ms.
t024484 Posted July 22, 2009 Share #6 Posted July 22, 2009 What is a Thumbs Up? & what screws do I tighten? To get acces to the screws, you have to remove the plastic cover below the bottom lid. But do not violate your warranty, and let Leice do the Job for you. Hans
SJP Posted July 22, 2009 Share #7 Posted July 22, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) There is a screw under the battery apparently. Also see this thread.
marknorton Posted July 22, 2009 Share #8 Posted July 22, 2009 To be clear, the top cover is held in place by two screws. One is accessible at the top of the battery compartment, the one nearest the end of the camera. The second requires the plastic plate to be removed inside the base of the camera - see the latest additions to my Anatomy thread.
