Doc Henry Posted July 26, 2009 Author Share #21 Â Posted July 26, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have been using Invisible Shield protectors since shortly after The Dawn of Time but I've stopped using them on camera LCDs. They tend to have an annoying orange-peel effect and actually do wear some. My two current products I'm evaluating (through installation and use) are the acrylic Acmaxx and the glass GGS (not confused with Giotto). The acrylic probably gives more impact protection whereas the glass is very, very transparent. Something to think about... Hi John, Have you some information about "Acmaxx" and "glass GGS" : where can we have this product ? Thank you and best regards Henry

Thank you Regards Henry  Henry,  I regret my spare Dura-Secs have already gone to another forum member.  These are made in Germany and are self healing, self adhesive film. They do degrade the image a bit but the upside is that they are non-reflecting like older Mac screens. They have to be put on very carefully to avoid getting dust in, as the action of putting them on generates static electricity. Best thing to do is to put them on the bathroom after having run the shower for a bit. As you leave the steam to condense, it carries the dust out of the air and the residual dampness minimises static electricity. You must make sure the M8 is nice and warm so that damp does not condense on it.  Wilson

Thank you and best regards Henry  Yes - start with these links:  Home  AC-MAXX stands for Maximum Accessories  both area available on that big auction site and I've noticed (buying a GGS (which is what Go Shot Camera sells) for my LX-3) that there are a few of the GGS models that Go Shot doesn't sell. I have had exceptionally good customer service from both the seller of the Acmaxx and from Go Shot.
lars_bergquist Posted July 26, 2009 Share #26 Â Posted July 26, 2009 First, I do practically never clean the screen cover. The resolution of the monitor is not such that a reasonable dose of nose grease hurts it much. Â Scratches are a different matter of course. My solution is either a Luigi Crescenzi halfcase, or a ditto full case. I use the halfcase even when the camera rides in a bag. These cases have a second advantage: They keep me from reflexive chimping. Good for battery life. jrgoldman Posted July 26, 2009 Share #27 Â Posted July 26, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have invisible shield but have not installed it. It requires me to spray a 'glue' on the boundary of the screen and I'm very nervous about this, especially sincle I'm a klutz in doing delicate manual tasks. Any suggestions. john_newell Posted July 26, 2009 Share #28 Â Posted July 26, 2009 Slightly OT, but wrt "reflexive chimping," I used to never review files on the screen, ever. After a couple of years, though, I've started to do it occasionally to confirm exposure, especially (not) blown-out highlights.

What I assume you are talking about is a mixture of water, alcohol and soap that "floats" the film on the surface of the screen so you can move it around, carefully, to position it correctly. I have installed scores of these and never had a problem with any kind of device: camera, phone, iPod, radio, etc. Just follow the directions. It seems to be a good film and as for "Durasec"it is envisaged for M8 ACMAXX LCD Protector - Leica M8 / M8.2 the price 20,99 USD for the europeans = 14,69 E.is less expensive For GGS it is not envisaged for M8. john_newell Posted July 27, 2009 Share #32 Â Posted July 27, 2009 A standard 2.5" GGS will, I am pretty certain, fit the M8 perfectly.

I think the more expensive Hi-Tec is better than their Clear-Tec. The Clear-Tec is quite thin and peeled off at the corners.  Wilson
