C1 4 output folder problem

For PC users, any suggestions are welcome.

If I start C1 4 latest version it sets the output folder to:

E:\My Documents Stephen\My Pictures\Capture One Library\Output

I actually want it to use another output folder:

E:\My Documents Stephen\My Pictures\leica m8\Color\New Folder

So I set this via "library" and "set as output folder", I also add this to session favorites so that I can acces it more quickly.

What is the problem?

1) if I restart C1 4 I have to start from scratch, it does not remember my output folder preference, and it is also not visible as a favorite

2) even worse - if I use the abovementioned output folder the processing time for a single images becomes about 2 minutes, if I use the 'default' it takes about 10 seconds per image.

Any ideas what is going on? Until recently I am pretty sure I did not have these problems :(

This sounds like a problem that started after you updated to a new version. Is that correct? Sometimes a new version installs OK over the old version and all your setting are being preserved, another time you run into folder problems you describe.

You can start with removing C1 from your PC and re-install the new version. In my experience this sometimes resolves the folder problem. When not you have to remove more data: during the uninstall not all folders are being removed. So you have to uninstall again and then search for folders that can be found under PhaseOne and CaptureOne and remove these as well (search for Phase* and Capture* on all disks). When done you might need to register again upon installing because you also removed the folder with the registration data. For me that has never given problems. Unfortunately I am not experienced enough to tell you which folder exactly you need to remove. I went through this rather brusk procedure two times and in the end C1 works again as it should.

Question:

Is there actually a folder called E:\My Documents Stephen\My Pictures\leica m8\Color\New Folder on your E drive? And is that E drive a physical hard drive inside your computer, a partitioned drive on one of the physical drives inside your computer or a external drive connected by USB or firewire?

If it is a external drive that could be your problem.

Or it could be the naming of that folder "My Documents Stephen" if your computer has more then one user name. Most of the time Windows will call the "My Documents" folder of different users of the same computer "[user name]'s Documents" (Stephen's Documents).

I just tried it on my PC and I have no problem assigning the output folder to anything I like. But first I created the folder to store the output files and on the second try I used the dialog that comes up to create a new folder but then I didn't call it New Folder.

It could also be that the "My Documents Stephen" folder on the E:\ drive is just a shortcut link to the REAL My Documents subfolder inside the C:\ Documents & Setting\Stephen (user name) folder. That is if you didn't move the My Documents folder correctly and rename is correctly when you moved it to the E drive.

You should be able to set this folder in the page last from the right end; if you mouse over, it is called "Output." On that tab/page, the section called "output naming" will allow you to browse to create the output folder.

For the record, I am still using version 4.0.1.

As it happens, I just installed a newer version of Firefox and now a lot of sites that I used to log into without typing the info require me to type passwords. *&^%$#@! computers and software. I like change less and less (except for legislative change that makes lives better).

Regards to all,

I'd ignore the Library tab and just navigate to the folder you want to write to...

Right-click and select "set as output folder" and you should be done. If you then close and re-open C1 V4 the output folder should be remembered.

Bill is also right that in the latest version you can also set the output folder directly from the output tab as well.

Thanks for all your suggestions so far. I will have to experiment again this evening.

The folder called E:\My Documents Stephen\My Pictures\leica m8\Color\New Folder is an existing folder on an internal hard drive. It worked perfectly using C1 LE that came with the M8. The folder E:\My Documents Stephen\My Pictures\leica m8 is where the DNG's get copied using the card reader (i.e. before processing) - that is recognised without any problems. The problem may be related to "new folder" which is a superfluous layer anyway. Time for some "spring cleaning" & disc scans methinks.

I also browse for input folders, but the output folder is set for all manipulated files.

To make life easy, I also set PS, Neat Image, and ImagePrint to read from this same folder.

This computer stuff doesn't resemble my darkroom very much....
