Enrique Santa Posted November 12, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 12, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) before nothing I must comment that this forum is becoming a very boring site…and disdainful with other recent Leica products……but remeember¡¡¡¡this is a purist forum. Here seems to be no place for other that the REAL Leica owners…the M8 owners. The rest are Pana –Leica product, and members. How can we denominate the feeling that dominates this forum, racist? clasist?, snob?. We must remember that M8 has been the last product in rising the digital train. Before this, Leica, developed a lot of digital cams, but……sorry they are not plenty Leicas, no pure blood. This is the real mistake. Some people at this forum, and sure in LEICA company, seems to don´t understand that things have changed. It has no sense look at the price of the Digilux 3, and take a look at the price of the M8 body. I´m sure that Leica had been able to developed a M8 at the half of the price with a completely new range of amateur lenses, whit the help of its partners, and probably better than the actual product, but the same problem again; it had not been a pure blood, and it will be a product for masses, not for a select minory. So the result are what we have: an incredible overpriced cam, made for a few, and with problems. All you have force Leica to be purist, and clasist. Now is your turn; you have what you want, so be patient.

Guest stnami Posted November 13, 2006 Share #4 Posted November 13, 2006 So the result are what we have: an incredible overpriced cam, made for a few, and with problems. Pretty much as well sums it up. The M8 was always going to be a clumsy beast from the time the decision was made to cater for the old lenses as oppossed to catering for the digital structure. The lens fondlers and Leica freaks demanded that their lenses should be catered for. This is the result and it is not really a suprise to anyone, but they still love it People here like the Leica camera and the rangefinder aspect in particular and are not too fussed with image content or structure. So be it if it makes them happy Is this making a positive contribution to the discussion? this is a bit negative as well
ddp Posted November 13, 2006 Share #5 Posted November 13, 2006 It has no sense look at the price of the Digilux 3, and take a look at the price of the M8 body. . I am not shocked by the price of the M8 body. There are several digital bodies that occupy that high rent district. M users have a digital solution if they want it, and are able to afford it. Leica considers it a professional camera - regardless of who's buying it. Whether you look at Nikon or Canon - their pro stuff is similarily priced, or higher. bayerische Posted November 13, 2006 Share #6 Posted November 13, 2006 I can't understand how anyone would think that the M8 is overpriced? If you compare it to a Panasonic maybe. Here in Santa Land it's around 4200 euro. An M7 is roughly 3000 euro. Leica will sort out the problems with it. And if not, I'll say it again, you can sell your hate-objects (M8) to me for a nickel and a dime.
