I agree that it is best to keep it together as the technical problems are the issues that concern the 'perfect digital camera' at the moment.

Should the M8 remain the same and the possibility to do IR continue, perhaps you can think about creating a digital IR forum (including P&S cams).

If it would improve our ability to discuss the use of the camera is a positive way without dismissing the concerns, I think it is a very good idea. I think discussion of the use of the camera, with its strengths and weaknesses, can be constructively separated from the bugs. Just my .02

Would ask you not to submerge the conversation. The timing (and using the term "technical" to describe discussion on this site about the M8) could easily be seen as an attempt to help hide/minimize the issue. Could easily hurt the credibility of the forum -- especially in light of recent stories related to requests by Leica to stop reviewers from informing readers of the issues. One of the few bright spots in this whole thing is that Leica has allowed, on its own forum pages, an open -- and on the main table -- discussion.

The conversation on the capabilities and limits of the M8 deserve to stay on the main page. Just as the threads with photos taken with the M8 belong here at the moment, even though there are subforums for those. The discussion here has been the most balanced and valuable to those, like myself, who purchased an M8, those considering it, and, I would say, to Leica -- in terms of helping it recognize the significance of the issues (and where they fit on the balance for the whole of the camera) in time to have a good chance to get ahead of them.

I vote to have a seperate technical forum. While I do want to read all the complaints, conspirarcy theories, outrage, etc, sometimes I want to concentrate on technical issues that will optimize the performance of the camera. My feeling is there is only one digital rangefinder currently available on the market and if it is not a success, we may as well start joining a DSLR forum because that will be the end of it.

This users forum is already way too fragmented. Say No! to having information served up on a pre-sorted platter. :) I like to use my eyes and exercise my brain, diving in where it looks interesting and jumping over where it doesn't. Chasing all over the place for threads that might be of interest (if you can find them!) is a total pain.

This world and our lives are beautiful, fascinating, surprising, chaotic, disorderly and messy. Which makes for good photos. Enjoy it for what it is and reject the need to have everything neatly squared away all the time. :D

I vote to have a new technical thread - it must be really frustrating for those who aren't directly interested in the M8 to have so much of the space taken up by our discussions -- also, and more importantly for me, things are so fragmented now it's difficult to track what's going on.

In the coming weeks as we get more experience from early users + Leica's own response I want to be able to see what the outstanding issues are. My order with Classic Camera in London is still firm and I expect delivery in December. No plans to cancel, but I do want to know which (if any) filters I'm going to need to get, or whatever emerges as the best means of getting the M8 performing to a professional level in a diverse and unpredictable real world.

Best

Get rid of the stuff all into one M8 bucket. At least then we can get sensible digital discussion on digital. Whats one more division, it was there once, someone just boobed by integrating it a couple of weeks early in a period there was nothing to gaff on about.

Yes Pleeeeeese!!!

I for one joined this forum for the interesting discussion threads on a wide range of Leica-related topics. I wanted to discuss many things and help others to boot....but...

I now have to wade through endless links about the M8 and its troubles. I can only presume that before its launch this site was very quiet indeed.. Leica's Sleepy Hollow. The traffic on magenta, banding and other fixables is endless and I cannot believe that every member of this forum has an M8 on order, in their sights or in their hands.

On a more constructive basis I would suggest that the 'Digital Forum' is split into M8, DMR, D Lux, D etc or it is split 'Complaints, moans and just plain pissed off' and 'The Rest' or something similar.

If this lot doesn't get changed soon I'm off....and yes you probably won't miss me between the moans of another M8 flaw or two.

Anyone care to join me?

Gerry

Again this morning I wake up to find MORE details on the same issue. Those of you who have the M8, please exercise a bit of restraint, otherwise I will flood ALL such threads with absolutely marvelous, problem free images.

threadeningly yours :-)

Good thought, the excitement will stay, now it's the unbeliefe and irritation about the faulty censor. Once this is fixed, it will turn into a stream of posts loaded with enthusiastic reactions. Photo's, tips and tricks, how to questions will jam the digital forum.

Just before the introduction we had a dedicated forum about the M8, it worked quite well in my opinion, the digital forum doesn;t at this moment. All posts about anything else than the M8 are pushed to the second page and further by a constant monotopic tsunami of buyers and critics on the ** item.

As for me not just a resplendent cam but also a forum focused is the best possible situation.
