ASpes Posted July 17, 2009 Share #3 Posted July 17, 2009 Hi to Everyone!I am the new user of Leica Digilux 3 and I am the new on the forum. So I would like to say Hello to Everyone. I have Leica Digilux 3 with kit lens 14-50 Vario. I am the fisherman and I need zoom or Telezoom. I have read good and bad reason to buy Panasonic 14-150. Anything else?? Which is the best zoom for Leica Digilux 3?? ( Never mind price ). I would like to make photos of bird or anything else?? Thanks, Marcin ( Poland ) First of all, let me add my welcome to the forum. As for your question, "best" has usually many answers depending on user and use ... Apart from the P/L 14-150 that you already know, you can fish in the Olympus range which has many outstanding options with tele zooms, as an example the 50-200 SWD is definitely one of the best if that zoom range will suit your needs. Given you're interested in bird photography (you said "never mind the price") another solution could be the Oly 150/f2 + 2x converter, which is a very handy combo both for size and results, and, last but not least, the so-called Bigma, a 50-500 lense from Sigma. Anyway I'm no expert on bird photography so I hope others will chime in and give you better advices based on their experience in this domain. As a last option, though it's not my cup of tea, you might look for some used Leica R lenses that you can mount via an adapter. Optically they are very good in most cases, but you must bear with a full manual lense and manual focus. Again, I'm sure that others will be able to point you to specific lenses that might better suit your use. Hope this helps.
rsolomon Posted July 18, 2009 Share #4 Posted July 18, 2009 Welcome ! I have only heard good things about the Oly 50-200, i have been considering one myself. i prefer using r lenses on the digilux 3 with the adapter, with this setup though manual focus, there is a focus confirmation led in the Vfinder. The major benfit to the Leica/Panny lens is that they offer image stabilzation in the lens - the Oly does not, and ofcourse the R lens does not again welcome to the forum
