I have the urge for a pocket camera. Some years ago i bought myself a Leica CM. I needed to send it in just after a few weeks. Something was wrong with the exposures.

I got a note back that the CM was discontinued and impossible to fix because some components where forbidden in EU. So i got a refund on the camera.

So my question is: If i buy a CM on Ebay. Can it be fixed somewhere? Or should i avoid it?

I sold my CM on ebay with the note that it had the 02 (I think) error. That was after Leica had told me they could not repair it. The buyer said he needed it for parts to repair his CM with the 03 error. He then wrote me to say that he had repaired "mine" with parts from his old CM which was not looking as factory fresh as mine. He told me the repair was not simple, but it can be done. If you find the right guy. And a camera to cannibalize. But not with the same fault as the one you want to fix.

With the experience which lies behind you, you should perhaps

leave the rest of of the CM´s where they are. Be glad you got a refund

for your CM ! You never know when the nxt one develops a problem.

Since I heard, LEICA doesn t repair them any more, I´am not using mine

on bicycletrips. Have done so for 4 yrs. with at least 3,000 (rough) km

and the CM managed it very well. A fine little camera, not a single issue until

now ...

Or look out for a Leica Mini. Search Ebay and there should be a few around for not too much. I have the Mini 3 and it is great as a true P/S ultra compact with an excellent fixed lens. Worth considering.

a friend of mine just made the same experience with his cm. 800€ burnt in four years, no repairs available. the customer service offered a reduced price for a new digital compact.

frankly, i would recommend an olypmus xa. really compact, good lens, lasts for 20 years+, and if anything happens to it, you can replace it for nearly nothing.
