cannik Posted July 11, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 11, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I understand that those new leica lens had a E# mark at lens, however, for instance a 50lux 2nd version wouldn't have mark any filter size it required. I am asking if there's any reference / website showed the correct filter (Leitz) with part number so that a beginner in Leica photography will be able to get the right filter. Thanks. Advertisement Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Hi cannik, Take a look here Filter use on old lenses. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
zeitz Posted July 12, 2009 Share #2 Posted July 12, 2009 You just measure the inside diameter with a metric ruler and round up. But Leica is a rich, complex subject. So you may want to buy some catalogs from that period on E-Bay on look for the Bower book on Leica lenses or the Rogliatti book on Leica/Leicaflex lenses. If you are really into Leicas, the Laney Collector's Guide, 2nd edition, is mandatory.

Thanks for your tip.
doubice Posted July 12, 2009 Share #4 Posted July 12, 2009 Get yourself a Leica Accessory Guide or a Leica Pocket Book, published by Hove Photo Books. Relatively inexpensive and and a treasure of knowledge. By the way - 'E' stands for 'Einschraub' as in screw-in and 'A' stood for 'Aufsteck' as in push-on. Some early Leica lenses used push-on filters, all the latest one use screw-in filters. The number quoted immediately after the 'E' or 'A' is the diameter of the filter thread or the lens filter mount. So - an E-39 filter is one that screws into a lens with 39mm filter thread, an A36 filter is one that slips over a lens with a 36mm external lens unit diameter. Yes, have a look here: Code des objectifs Leica M It's in French, but i guess you shouldn't have any difficulty to understand the meaning of "Filtre"
