This is my first attempt to upload a picture. I may have downsized it too much. Leica M8, 50mm f2.0 at f5.6 (I think), iso 320.

This is just great! So many excellent shots. What jumps out at me most is the sense of depth in these images. So many photos look 2D, but there is a tangible sense of space with these M8 images. A reminder (as if it were needed) of why we love this company's lenses so much. :)

Great posts everyone.

Just a reminder: The Photo Forum is available for your posts and is a better place to demonstrate the capabilities of the new M8.

Here's the link again:

Out of respect for members who don't have broadband, I'd ask you not to post more than three to a thread as the download becomes lengthy.

Posting instructions are available as a sticky at the top of each section page (see Brian's Tip).

Thanks.

Allan

These are my first images posted to the forum. I hope they come through. All shot with the M8 and a 1976 Noctilux, uncoded, 320 and 640 ASA. Sorry, didn't record anything else.

Regarding the images that are attached to my post above, I should have mentioned that although I made DNG and small jpegs of each shot, the images posted above are just the straight jpegs from the camera with levels bumped using the black and white droppers in PS CS2. I can't remember which of the outdoor shots had the UV/IR cut filter on the Noctilux and which were without it (sorry about that...no scientific method here).

My reaction to the camera is as follows: if the 486 filter is on the lens inside in tungsten light, it works very well, but without the filter, fit's problematic and not only for black fabrics...I find it impossible to get the white balance worked out without the filter. However, with the filter the camera handles color under tungsten just fine.

The camera handles color in natural light beautifully. I had no idea the noctilux performed so well in broad daylight (all of the shots above were with the Noct as that is the only lens for which I had a 486 filter).

. . . and lack and white is wonderful in any light...amazing, actually.

Although I would much prefer not having to use the filters, I can put up with them and keep my fingers crossed that Leica comes through with a solution that doesn't require them. Until then, the camera is a joy to use.

HI There

I'm still having some issues with my workflow (when WILL aperture support the M8!). Still, I'm having a great time, and I'm sure you'll excuse slightly flat colours in one or two shots.

Ed:

From the few Noctilux pictures I have seen that were shot with the M8, it seems to be a lens made for that camera. The images are so smooth yet sharp.

Hello Allan,

I have just read your post asking for photos to be posted in the Photo Forum. In my excitement I have only been looking at the posts with images attached. I am sorry if I have caused any problems with this thread. Maybe you can move it to the Photo Forum section.

Regards

I really really like those M8+Noctilux shots.

Dont know why. Are they a little more contrasty? Or IMO they even look a little bit "grainy"? I dont know what it is but they have character and I am very glad that I did not sell my Noctilux. Just wish tha tmy M8 finally arrives.
