Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 11, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 11, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well i can barely get my work done because of all the chatter about this . Okay I know there is a ton of frustration , disapointment and money on the line. Trust me I know this because i am looking at one in my office and it NEEDS to work. By Monday night would be nice too. I know this board has gone from estatic to upset to kill the messenger to blame this on someone and anyone will be freaking be fine. Than back to will they will fix it to i lost faith and pissed off to a crap lets' make it work to back to hating everyone that has a Leica name attached to it and pretty soon I will get blamed for trying to get this working. This is a freaking see saw . let's put the energy into owners go out and try stuff, to engineers make some suggestions and try to postively help someone without being asked to the trolls to go piss off and leave us alone so we can come with a fix to get the 100's of people that have one in there hand to having them on order to having them on hold and to the ones that gave up. Can we get past the BS and move on to making it work today and hope there is a fix real soon to solve the issue. Take my word for it if I have the last ounce of life I will get this sucker to perform and hold Leica to fix it , So lets take the same attitude and help move forward some how and get past the crap. We are all leica friendly but it is falling apart, Okay there is a problem do you just give up in your life when you have a problem. No let's grow up and make the best of this. My cheer for the day, the motivational speech , the oh crap Guy fell off the wagon to anything but what we are reading. I feel better do you. Okay hate me , dispise me and think I am freaking nuts, I am but let's move on Okay that was a rant and I am sure I will get a note from Allan but let's move forward people this is starting to look like baby land. Now i am going back to work:D

j. borger Posted November 11, 2006 Share #6 Posted November 11, 2006 I am with you Guy ....love that attitude ..... i make this sucker work FOR ME even if this it ... and Leica does not come with any fixes. I am sitting here with the finest lenses in the world and only had an R-D1 to attach it to so far ... if that camera dies i know there will be no support .. so that M8 has to work .. no matter how! MSmelik Posted November 11, 2006 Share #8 Posted November 11, 2006 "We are all leica friendly but it is falling apart" gee I do wonder why ???? And I'm genuinely sorry for getting between you and your work, it's just that I have been cheated out of 5000$ or so, being lied to and being kept on a leash. But would I have known that commenting on this matter has caused you such distress I would of thought about it twice, very sorry indeed mate. But I still hope father Christmas is still partying with the easter bunny, don't you?
george + Posted November 11, 2006 Share #9 Posted November 11, 2006 Yes Guy, I agree with you. The problem is real - but I can fix most of my images. It is true that my livelihood does not depend on this and I can take my time to play. Which I like doing. But it is a great camera and I trust that Leica will fix all. Relax folks, it will be well - I hope.
Jamie Roberts Posted November 11, 2006 Share #10 Posted November 11, 2006 Hey Guy-- It's a lot easier to be positive when you've got the camera and you can see just how good it really is. I mean, it almost kills my DMR... are you getting that feeling? I'm just about done some tests. I'll post them then people can read them or keep on doubting. Yeah--Leica's gotta fix the artifact problem. And C1 has to fix that freaking profile. It's the worst Just my opnion, YMMV.
Eoin Posted November 11, 2006 Share #11 Posted November 11, 2006 I hope everyone realizes i am having a little fun here , which we really need I think that should read "which you really need". All that lovely glass you have and you're covering it with with IR window blinds. I can see how you'd need something to cheer you up No use killing yourself for a fix, leica will get there soon enough,
clayh Posted November 11, 2006 Share #12 Posted November 11, 2006 Personally, I now feel liberated. After wasting hours during the last week tracking this meltdown and then finally deciding to return my camera, I now feel, well, strangely calm. I had a small architectural job this afternoon. I took the 5D, and it performed like a champ. Very long dynamic range shots with interior and exterior views, mixed lighting and some extremely bright can lights that could not be avoided in the ceiling of this place. Now that I am home and am processing the raw files, I realize that the M8 that I had only a week ago would have fallen flat on its face in this situation: High ISOs, weird light, very bright artificial lights. So I am officially no longer worried about whether the M8 is fixed or not. I don't need or want one. I have some film leicas, and good leica glass all ready for shooting film. They can be repaired by any number of people around the US. So if this debacle sinks Leica, it will generate a big yawn from me. Who knows, the 28 asph elmarit I bought for the M8 may turn out to be collector's item: "The last new lens Leica made". Have fun. I may check back in from time to time to see how it is going. And Guy, I know you are having fun. I'm serious about saying good luck too. I just don't have the time to deal with it. I seriously hope the M8 gets rescued and Leica survives. But I don't think it is a given at the moment.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 11, 2006 Share #13 Posted November 11, 2006 If you feel cheated than bring it back for a full refund no one is stopping you and i have 15 k in it and don't feel that way, when something is as good or better than my DMR , it maybe a cold day in hell to get out of my hands. BTW your also completely missing the fun in my comments. Lighten up it's a lot healthier
peterv Posted November 11, 2006 Share #14 Posted November 11, 2006 Guy has a point here! Uptill now not many (including me) have been able to come up with solutions. Maybe we should try to just put a little more positive energy into this. Personally, I am not especially a Leica-brand-fanatic. I'm just in the market for a quality digital camera. For me it's become unaffordable to buy slidefilm and have it developed and scanned professionally (€ 25,- for 180 Kb files). The M8 came to my attention about six months ago and I still think this might just be a winner. Perhaps we are witnessing the - complicated - birth of what is to become a legendary camera. Any positive Ideas? I'm not a technical guy, but over at another thread here someone suggested an open letter from this forum to Leica asking for complete openess and financial reassurance. Do you think that might help? (at least it will maybe help calm things down). Peter

osera Posted November 11, 2006 Share #17 Posted November 11, 2006 I'm with you Guy, for the fun part and the serious part, too. Hey, I have to work hard to get results I like from my film M's, but when it works it really works. There's no magic good picture button there or here. Same with the DMR. The camera is not making me a better photographer, nor did I expect it to. Yeah, Leica will be held to a high standard. They have to. (They were never going to save themselves by tricking a few hundred Leica fools who would buy anything with a red dot. ) As I become familiar with the camera, I'm starting to get pictures that I like. Just like when I got the DMR and the M3 for that matter. Same with the 5D. I have full confidence that if the camera has faults that make it unusable to me, I will be able to return it to the dealer (he has told me so) and that Leica will come clean with him. With that in mind, I'm going to learn something about this new tool!
kidigital Posted November 11, 2006 Share #18 Posted November 11, 2006 Jamie, I'm getting the same feeling you are about the M8 vs. the DMR. As an example, here is a quick, colorful snap from this morning with the 24asph as I work my way through the settings. Welcome, dear visitor! Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 11, 2006 Share #19 Posted November 11, 2006 Kurt i can already tell even with the color issues the M is going to be better than the DMR when it gets fixed. I can't believe i just said that.
gumshoecamus Posted November 11, 2006 Share #20 Posted November 11, 2006 guy I don't know you but after following your DMR thread last year on FM and now this M8 work I think you are great. your enthusiasm and problem-solving is really great. some people would rather snipe and dream up waspish epithets than do anything constructive -- presumably they are pleased with themselves. you, on the other hand, are a peach. dave
