adan Posted July 8, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 8, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is somewhat a follow-on to this thread: Coming revolution. ----------------------- Rocky Mountain Independent RMI Archive Archaeologists for hire are history’s bodyguard. The "how" is easy - M8 and 18mm f/3.8 (except for one 90mm 'cron shot) were used for the still pictures - at the bottom of the story. It may be of interest here, but was compeletly irrelevant to me, my subjects, or the pictures I got. Except for the fact that it felt familiar and easy to work with. (Moderators: note M8 content) The "why" is - to get back into photojournalism, to tell stories, to further a business partnership, and to have a lot of fun meeting new people, going new places, and discovering new things - for which a camera, any camera - is a good excuse, and a good tool. (to those in the Colorado Front Range area - click "home" and check out the whole site, not just my little corner - we're gonna do good stuff) Personally, I am just about through with buying equipment. What I have I will use until it is unrepairable - at least 5 years - and then take a look at the equipment landscape. I do have one more purchase to make, which will allow me to shoot HD video, macro, and telephoto shots with my present M lenses. "How" I'm going to do that I leave as an exercise for the reader (Hint: my 90 'cron pre-ASPH will become a "180mm" f/2 for stills or video.) But for me it is just the cheapest and simplest way to add huge functionality to equipment I already have and love.
Advertisement Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Hi adan, Take a look here Of "how" and "why". I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
scott kirkpatrick Posted July 8, 2009 Share #2 Posted July 8, 2009 Interesting articles. The video seems to be carrying much more of the workload of telling the story than the still images. When did you become a platypus? Thanks for the link, and good luck with the RMIndependent. scott
adan Posted July 10, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted July 10, 2009 Hi, yeah, quick answer between 12-hour video edit sessions. Still trying to find the balance between video and photos in dual assignments and avoid duplication. Problem is that (IMHO) both should tell stories, so I need to find two stories in each assignment - equal, or a main story for pictures and a subplot for the video (or vice-versa). When? Picked up a video camera for the first time about 14 months ago when there was a job posting for a multimedia photojournalist at my paper (since deceased). First results were hashes, but I'm getting the hang of it (I hope) now. Thinking "sound", "beginning" and "end" - sometimes on the fly as I shoot and see what I'm getting, is the key.
