Flash for M8

Check here for trigger voltage and your flash model. I've found the SB22/24/27 working on the M8.

The SB50 is reported to work and should also have an "Auto" mode, which could then be used with the M8. The SB50 even has a remote Auto function, so it works as a wireless slave flash along with another non-TTL Auto flash. As the flash seems to use CR123s, it's not my cup of tea, however.

Thanks guys. I tried it and my M8 didn't melt so I guess the voltage is not an issue. I didn't find the manual so I'll have to muddle through and see how 'dedicated' this thing is. :)

The SB-50DX was the simpler of the two flashes at the time, the other being the SB-80DX and was short lived as Nikon changed their direction for TTL flash metering with digital cameras. I agree you should be able to use A mode where you will dial in the ISO, the camera will display the aperture to use (with possibly a range of power outputs which gives a choice of aperture settings) and you will select that aperture on the lens. Should work fine and there is, of course, no issue with flash contact voltage.

The SB-50DX is avery simplistic bounch flash built for the Nikon systems, and really intended for full TTL metering on the Nikon bodies. It has a slave function with A as well agina seem to be usable only with Nikon flashes. On my M8, when connected on M, it will only be full pwered flash, so it's pretty useless. My suggestion is.. put it up on eBay and sell it for whatever it is worth (not much).

Try an SB-800, and use the A setting. DR

I don't like using flash; kinda defeat the whole purpose of an inconspicuous camera with a fast lens, I feel. I found the SB50 and wondered if it will work with an M8, should I ever need to save my life with one. ;)
