M8 : red lining. Maybe a new problem ?

Yes, even if that's not the point here, I've also noticed that my sensor need to be cleaned.

And that's also the first time I have to clean a sensor, and more on a camera that is only few days old :( (I have never had any blotch on my previous N...)

Well, when I first got my 1ds2 from Canon, I took it with me to the desert outside of Las Vegas and shot landscapes at f8 to f16. Believe me, that was the dirtiest camera ever right out of the box!

I do think the red stripes (such as they are) are a RAW converter issue. All converters dither differently, and then you're converting for the web (this isn't a TIFF) so there's even more patterns.

Sorry, I don't think this is an M8 flaw.

As for IR and face tones, forget it. I have a touch of rosacea (as does that priest, maybe?) and my son's skin is nearly transparent.

We're pale people.

The Canons actually have a lot more IR frequency response in skin tones than I'm seeing in the M8 in that range of color. We used to call it "Canon sunburn".

I'll post a 100% crop of my son today in flourescent light...

And you know what? As an input profile, I used ETC's 5d profile. Notice no dithering problems? Notice no magenta-ness or funky saturation?

Ok, it's not optimised for the M8. But it's now as good as my 5d, and easier to focus ;)

Your sensor has massive banding. The magenta bands are all over your image. This has not been seen in any other camera , at least I hope not. Send the camera back.

I've found maybe a new problem with the M8.

I've noticed vertical red or magenta line on some pictures when I view them at 100%.

Pascal Méheut told me that it was maybe a problem of raw conversion but I can't remove them even if I use the "pattern noise suppression" of capture one...

Here some crop (open your eyes because it's quite difficult to notice at first sight)

So look closely at your own picture to see if you also have this problem...

I can't see anything apart from a chicken on his nose and a big evil angel on his right eyelid - and his lips are purple.

His lips are green on my monitor, and he's clearly channeling the ghost of HCB. ;-)

Hi Edmund!--

Yeah, it absolutely could be defective. Or double profiling or something. Or the monitor profile isn't set up correctly. I thought I saw horizontal banding too--but there's too many variables to say for sure.

After a lot more pictures processed with C1, I couldn't see these red lines any more.:)

So my conclusion is that IT WAS CERTAINLY A SOFTWARE PROBLEM : my sensor is OK.

One hour ago, I even processed the faulty pictures again with C1 and, miracle, now everything is OK (even if the withe balance is still on the hot side...).

So I apologize : it's defintely not a M8 default :o

And just to illustrate the first picture newly processed with C1 (and R9 profile)(and without noise reduction) :)
