sbsatv Posted July 6, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 6, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is it better to set the shutter speed before cocking/winding the shutter or after, is one better than the other? The last mechanical camera I used - Sinar P2 - you had to set the shutter speed before cocking the shutter. I don't want to do any damage to my M. earleygallery Posted July 6, 2009 Share #2 Posted July 6, 2009 No, it doesn't matter on an M camera. If you're using a Barnack camera then you need to cock the shutter first, then set the speed (as the shutter dial turns as you cock the shutter and can only then be set correctly). alifie Posted July 6, 2009 Share #3 Posted July 6, 2009 You can set a Barnack before winding on, but without a second mark to line up against you won't know what speed you have set. It doesn't matter if you store the camera wound or unwound, the shutter is not under a lot of stress. BTW I think you can break a Zorki by setting the shutter before winding.
