Bo, I've downloaded your DNG and I'm quite puzzled. Is that the best this lens can deliver?

Did you try some shot on a tripod?

In your picture the focus is quite soft when seen at 100%

What is your opinion on this new Nokton so far?

Enrico if you read his blog he has some opinions on the lens stated there.

Soft at 1.1, better at 5.6.

Bo,

Thanks for posting the full DNG as a download. I have just converted it in C1 and I agree with you, the contrast is on the low side. These fast lenses also seem to blow out the highlights very easily. The end result looks very like images I took when I had a 35/1.2, which is not a total surprise. It makes me think that the Hexanon 50/1.2 might be a better lens for me, as I like higher contrast. The only thing that concerns me is the back focus distance of K-Hex lenses. You never seem to get two people to agree if it is the same as Leica or not. Obviously with a 1.2/50 on the M8, back focus distance is just a tad critical. The good news is that the Voigtlander already seems to be depressing the Konica prices.

When I get caught up I'll test this and the Leica 50/.95. That should be interesting. BTW, I mentioned your coding template in the review of the CV 15/4.5 II and I'll say here that its got to be the best thing an M8 photographer can buy for just $5.

Cheers,

Sean

Where and how can I get this template I just got my CV 15 and need to code it? Please contact me privately if you wish through this site. Thanks!:D

sbelyaev: congrats on the new lens, personally Im very pleased with the mechanical operation, the aperture is smooth and with firm stops, and the focus rotation is only 1/4 turn from end to end and as light as I could have imagined.

Congrats?! You must be kidding..

As you can see this diaphragm has two openings.

I guess I've received a stereo version of the lens.

The diaphragm is severely damaged or it hasn't been assembled correctly.

It simply means that no one checks the lenses before they get shipped to the customers. I had similar problems with the first copy of Nokton 35/1.2 about a year ago.

sbelyaev, thats unbelieveable.... holy ****.! I would be rather dissapointed if I were in your shoes right now.

I did see the two lights, and honestly thought they were reflections... (Sean got it though)

zlatkob - its the old one. FedEX have not delivered my new one yet. :D

I had an exactly similar situation with a 35/1.2 purchased from PhotoVillage while in the US for three days. I first panicked, but Rinch Pinto arranged to have another lens reach me in less than 24 hrs.

I would not mind paying a bit more to have more consistency from Voightlander lenses

I am afraid this mirrors my experience with Voigtlander lenses. Three bought - #1 unusable with optical cell wholly misaligned in body (21/4), #2 well out of adjustment, with focus barrel misaligned to focus cam and very low contrast (35/1.2 ) and #3 very soft (35/2.5). Now I accept I may have been unlucky but how much would it add to each lens to borrow the Zeiss inspectors to check them or at least to learn from their methods. This is not the sort of short term approach one expects from a Japanese manufacturer and will in the end, severely damage their reputation.

All this is probably due to a too quick drop on the market.

It sure make you think twice before buying this lens. I thought I could buy it on the internet, but at a second though I think I will eventually order it at my town dealer so as I can check it before taking it home.

Last though, This Nokton has quite an old-fashioned look IMO

Supposedly Stephen Gandy inspects all the lenses before he sells them, or so I've heard. I guess this one he missed.
