Uv/Ir detection on. Unless you have a lens that is detected incorrectly by a screw in the mount it is best to leave it on all the time. That is if you are indeed using filters. At the very least you will not forget to reset it when mounting a coded wideangle.

Though without a code the camera software won't do any corrections,

 

I'm not sure of that. I think it still does some type of generic correction even without any code to tell it what lens is on the camera.

I agree with jaapv. I have two lenses that are not coded but I always leave the camera in the detect/filter mode so I won't forget when I switch over. I haven't noticed anything dramatic in frames from either of the lenses. Of course they are longer lenses, (75mm CV and 90mm Macro Elmar), so perhaps this is because they are less prone to vignetting and less prone to color shifts in the corners.
