D-Lux 4 and Film Mode?

I am a new D-Lux 4 owner and have a question about the 'Film Mode' options on the REC menu. I guess I will find the answer to this eventually by experimentation but I would like to know if anyone knows the answer now.

If I elect to shoot in RAW mode will the various options in Film Mode (Dynamic, Nature, Nostalgic, Standard B&W, etc. etc.) be applied to my RAW file? What if I shoot in a RAW + jpeg mode; will the film mode options be applied to the jpeg file but not the RAW file?

The reason that I ask this is because some options in the menus are grayed out (can't be selected) when the RAW option is in effect. But the film mode options are not grayed out.

Nope. RAW is RAW. It´s the "raw" signal from the sensor before the camera´s processor does anything to it.

Yes, the jpeg´s are processed in accordance to whatever you set the camera to do. And the jpeg´s are what you´ll see on the camera LCD. This is useful e.g. when intending to work in B/W but still wanting to preserve the margin for PP in a RAW file (for simulating colour filter effects after-the-fact, or doing major curve adjustments): shoot raw + jpg and choose a B/W film mode: you´ll see what you´re doing on the screen, but the raw files are full colour, and thus retain all info for PP

A little aside:

Interestingly, when you shoot RAW only, with a Film Mode (say, BW Standard) selected, some thumbnails will appear in that mode (BW), while others do not. When you open them, of course, you're looking at the RAW/colour version.

Thanks for the information. I kind of hoped it worked that way!
