jaapv Posted June 21, 2009 Share #21 Posted June 21, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Consensus seems to be that the best converter is C1 4.8.1 I have read a number of complaints about the RAW converter of Aperture, but I cannot confirm them, as I have no experience with it. I do find C1 considerably better for M8 files (and DMR files as well) than ACR (adobe) Whatever else, C1 provides for different profiles for your RAW conversion, depending on the original shot, like the use of an IR filter or not, and individual profiles as well.IMHO... Advertisement Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Hi jaapv, Take a look here comparing b+w with leica uv/ir-cut filters. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
offshore Posted June 21, 2009 Share #22 Posted June 21, 2009 high time for leica to straighten out their awkward ir-issue!! markus Markus it is only perceived as a problem if you are shooting color. If you are a B&W shooter and especially a B&W IR shooter the lack of an IR blocking filter is a bonus for us. I know we are in a minority but I would not buy an M digital that had an IR blocking filter on the sensor.
vla Posted June 22, 2009 Author Share #23 Posted June 22, 2009 @ jaap - thanks for your explanations. i never liked c1 for it's user surface. but as it seems, i'll have to give it another try and compare conversion capabilities with aperture. i guess this will make for another interesting thread @ offshore - thanks for reminding us of the unique b&w ir-shooting capabilities of the m8 ... is this what this camera will be sought after 10 years from today ... ? markus
Philippe D. Posted June 25, 2009 Share #24 Posted June 25, 2009 Hi Sean, The filters don't take away any light at all. My curiosity makes me made a check with a Minolta 1° spotmeter. Actually, the UV/IR Leica filter take -0,02 F or -0,2 EV away. To be neglected.
