gfspencer Posted June 17, 2009 Share #1 Posted June 17, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) The red dot got knocked off one of my lenses. I found it. What would you use to glue it back on?
Advertisement Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Hi gfspencer, Take a look here Red Dot Glue. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted June 17, 2009 Share #2 Posted June 17, 2009 Thin doublesided tape. Leica will send you a new one free of charge or at a nominal price.
Shootist Posted June 17, 2009 Share #3 Posted June 17, 2009 Or just a drop of super glue.
marknorton Posted June 17, 2009 Share #4 Posted June 17, 2009 If you use superglue, put the smallest drop into the centre well behind the red dot; if you use too much, it will ooze out at the edges when you press the red bump into position and spoil your day. bybrett Posted June 17, 2009 Share #5 Posted June 17, 2009 The glue in Prit stick works too, this was recommended to me by Steve at Ffordes.
jaapv Posted June 17, 2009 Share #6 Posted June 17, 2009 Or just a drop of super glue. Dont!! You must be able to remove it if the rangefinder needs adjusting!

twittle Posted June 17, 2009 Share #8 Posted June 17, 2009 Dont!! You must be able to remove it if the rangefinder needs adjusting! On a lens, not a camera body.
Shootist Posted June 17, 2009 Share #9 Posted June 17, 2009 Dont!! You must be able to remove it if the rangefinder needs adjusting! Lens RED DOT not Leica RED logo. I was wondering why you said double sided tape. That's a awful small pice of tape for a lens red dot.
jaapv Posted June 19, 2009 Share #10 Posted June 19, 2009 Duh - my bad... Even then Superglue is not a good idea. It gets too brittle in the long run and it may fall off again. Any contact glue should be fine, as a matter camera repair people I know use it.
rob_x2004 Posted June 19, 2009 Share #11 Posted June 19, 2009 Wouldnt you have that glue for glueing crowns? Fairs fair I mean your tax department must ok, what on average, three handpiece repairs in Solms for you a year, surely you could give some back:D? NZDavid Posted June 21, 2009 Share #12 Posted June 21, 2009 My red blob/dot fell off, too. You need a special plastic glue from your local hardware store (I'll post the name).
nikau Posted June 21, 2009 Share #13 Posted June 21, 2009 I've had red dots falling off lenses -- including current production ones -- since I started using Leicas more than 30 years ago and there have been many postings on the subject over the years, so it would seem that even the factory has not found the "right" glue! Years ago, Leica gave me a little plastic bag containing a dozen red dots in two different sizes; I still have a few left. I have always stuck them back on with superglue.
