wijayane Posted June 17, 2009 Share #1 Posted June 17, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, I'm new here at this forum and i would like to ask some questions about choosing between a black paint MP and a silver MP. Currently i've got an M6 which is in silver and in addition to that, I'm planning on buying an MP black paint (since i've already got the silver M6) but i've heard that the black paint would wear off and the brass colour would start to show. Is there any point or info. worth considering before deciding between the two ? Would it be too crazy to eventually ended up having both ? Thanks

JBA Posted June 17, 2009 Share #2 Posted June 17, 2009 I have a black MP and after a year it's starting to show some brassing. In addition to being a black camera guy, I like the patina of brassing. My camera has earned every bit of it honestly. If brassing or fingerprint smudges, etc. would bother you, the black paint MP may not be for you. antistatic Posted June 17, 2009 Share #3 Posted June 17, 2009 Brassing looks cool. I am very fond of my black MP
wijayane Posted June 17, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted June 17, 2009 Thanks for the comments. I guess brassing looks good in a way and I really don't mind it brassing over a period of time. I will probably stick to getting the black paint one, then. Cheeeers

wijayane Posted June 17, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted June 17, 2009 That's a beautiful brassing, indeed. Looks almost "sacred". The s/n is also beautiful; a lot of 9s

JBA Posted June 17, 2009 Share #8 Posted June 17, 2009 It's worth adding that of the classic black Leicas I see in the shops in Tokyo, the most consistently expensive ones are the black paint M3s M2s and M4s that have not been repainted. A pristine body will be priced upward of $10k, while a brassed one will be priced in the $3k-$5k ballpark. The repainted or chrome bodies are quite a bit cheaper. kenneth Posted June 17, 2009 Share #9 Posted June 17, 2009 My vote would be chrome. It seems to me to be classic Leica colour. Having said that, at present I have a chrome M6 Classic and a black on which, although not my first choice colourwise was in such superb condition I decided to buy it. NB- Having given serious thought to having 2 bodies I am possible going to sell the black one as I really cannot justify having both so read into that what you will.
