Julius Bjornsson Posted June 13, 2009 Share #1 Posted June 13, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi there all. Now at the worst possible time, my M8 has a shutter failure. Nothing gets registered and the shutter does not show the white blade when closed. Some of the blades even appear to be very slightly bent or something. Now my question is, how long should I expect to have to wait for the repair if I send it immediately? The camera is almost two years old, and I seem to remember a number of these problems in the beginning. Is that correct? I did absolutely nothing and this suddenly happened. I was trying to look for the number of shutter actuations in on of the last photos I took that worked and cannot find this. Can anyone help me, I seem to remember some program called Opanda or some such that could do this and I also remember being able to do this with an earlier version of Bridge. But now I for the life of me cannot find this. Please help.

scott kirkpatrick Posted June 13, 2009 Share #2 Posted June 13, 2009 Just under two years old, or just over two years? Obviously if you are still under the 2 yr warranty period, things will be better. And if you are out of warranty, by all means replace the failed shutter with the new quiet shutter. I have always suspected that the shutter upgrade was intended to reduce the chance of this kind of failure as well as to reduce noise. To find the number of shutter activations (it's called the unique image ID), open the dng file with CornerFix and that program will read all the extra metadata contained in the MakerNotes section of the EXIF in each exposure. Cornerfix can be located by Googling its name. I believe you download it from SourceForge and it is free. Its real purpose is vignetting correction; the EXIF reader is a side benefit. scott
Julius Bjornsson Posted June 13, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted June 13, 2009 Thanks very much, I am just under two years, bought in august 2007, so I should be ok. Thanks for the tip about Cornerfix.
