Cleaning the M8

There are many threads dealing with sensor cleaning. The most recent is here: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/87831-m8-sensor-cleaning-never-ending-story.html

Dry stuff (dust) can usually be removed with a blower and/or brush. Grease spots require a cleaning solution (like Eclipse 2) and an applicator to wipe the sensor glass.

However good you get at cleaning, however, it still pays to try to keep dirt out. Try to change lenses in the cleanest place you can find. Some say to turn the camera off to minimize the effect of static attracting dust, and to have the lens mount facing down when changing to minimize the effect of gravity.

I bought the Artic Butterfly last week and cleaned my sensor. It's fantastic. Just buy the 724 unit, you do not need the deluxe edition with all the brushes, unless you have other DSLRs to clean. It's fantastic !

Same here. A good blow to remove dust, sand, etc on the lens, then Arctic Butterfly brush for the sensor, then (only if needed) wet cleaning with swabs and Eclipse 2 or Arctic Butterfly products on the sensor surface.

I just bought and used Butterfly 724 for dust and Dust-Aid tabs for small dry/grease residues.

Tested with some clear sky shots : sensor is clean.

Total amount : 80 euros.
