Berommen Posted June 8, 2009 Share #1 Posted June 8, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, i am new to the leica 'M world'. I just bought a secondhand M8. Can anyone inform me how to clean the lens and sensor if needed. I will use the camera mostly outdoors and sometimes in sandy conditions. Thanks! stephengilbert Posted June 8, 2009 Share #3 Posted June 8, 2009 There are many threads dealing with sensor cleaning. The most recent is here: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/87831-m8-sensor-cleaning-never-ending-story.html Dry stuff (dust) can usually be removed with a blower and/or brush. Grease spots require a cleaning solution (like Eclipse 2) and an applicator to wipe the sensor glass. However good you get at cleaning, however, it still pays to try to keep dirt out. Try to change lenses in the cleanest place you can find. Some say to turn the camera off to minimize the effect of static attracting dust, and to have the lens mount facing down when changing to minimize the effect of gravity. mattraineyimages Posted June 8, 2009 Share #4 Posted June 8, 2009 I bought the Artic Butterfly last week and cleaned my sensor. It's fantastic. Just buy the 724 unit, you do not need the deluxe edition with all the brushes, unless you have other DSLRs to clean. It's fantastic ! M
Ecar Posted June 9, 2009 Share #5 Posted June 9, 2009 I bought the Artic Butterfly last week and cleaned my sensor. It's fantastic. A good blow to remove dust, sand, etc on the lens, then Arctic Butterfly brush for the sensor, then (only if needed) wet cleaning with swabs and Eclipse 2 or Arctic Butterfly products on the sensor surface.
