Lavender - Focus

Andy,

I know the feeling :D. IMHO #2 is better: DOF in #1 is strong, but for this subject the tip of the lavender is just not exciting enough to focus on that solely.

I agree with Marco, #2 for me.

I recently fell in love with Lavender after visiting a small, organic lavender farm in northern New Mexico. The smell is intoxicating and I have since become addicted to all things lavender:)

I'm afraid that neither really works for me.

One highlights the tips only. However, there is no marked difference in 'statement' between the tip and any other part of the blooms. Hence, there is no particular reason why such a small part of the plant should be in focus.

The other one shows the pottery in fine detail. Of the plant, the largest portion of what is depicted in focus are - the leaves.

You might try to arrange the lavender such that a larger portion is in focus at the same time.

Anyway, I think the whole still life a bit problematic. I do not see an 'inner connection' between the pot and the plant. Also, the table top (if it is such) does not exhibit a particular affinity with either pot or plant. Replace the table top with a white cloth or a mirror, perhaps?
