Vieri Posted June 7, 2009 Share #24 Posted June 7, 2009 As what seems to be the majority here so far, I also load my M2 & M3 the way it is designed to be loaded - and as others mentioned, I also put some tension in the film by turning the rewind handle until the film is properly tense. I also have one extra spool, which I bring along in case I'd ever be in a situation where I need to have a second film ready to go in the quickest possible time, or in case something happens to spool nr. 1. Never happened so far. I also use an MP, which of course supposedly loads faster; well, indeed you save some seconds with the MP style loading system, and indeed you can do it with one hand easier than the Mx style review: but the advantage of the old system, and it's a big one for me, is in the "certainty of loading"so to speak: the removable spool makes really sure that the film is caught in the spool and therefore that it is loaded properly. The MP's system, especially if loaded in a hurry, as a higher risk of not properly loading the film than the older system.
Rolo Posted June 7, 2009 Share #25 Posted June 7, 2009 I used an M3 for weddings until 2 years ago and would always have a second loaded spool on-hand. It's the fastest way to change film in an M3, if that's what's needed. Faster than an MP, IMO, as the single application fixes the film in place. I used the second spool only when time was of the essence and my second loaded MP body was running low. Otherwise, I'd re-load the camera spool to maintain the back-up.
