giordano Posted May 31, 2009 Share #6 Â Posted May 31, 2009 I'm surprised there isn't more discussion on this thread. Those two posts were very interesting. Â Judging from the third article there was a lively discussion at the Online Photographer. After reading the first piece, I thought to myself "yes, but why does it have to be a Leica". After reading the second article I still felt that the exercise would be just as effective with quite a few other cameras. To name but three: Rollei or similar TLR: looking down at the reversed image makes you think about what you're doing - or you can use the sports finder for a direct view. Rollei 35: excellent bright-line finder, full manual control, and every photographer should be able to estimate distances. Classic Minox: Good finder, scale focusing, and the added challenge of making impactful pictures within the constraints of an 8x11 negative.

giordano Posted June 1, 2009 Share #8  Posted June 1, 2009 You might want to read his third installment...see my link above.Jeff  I read it before posting, but it quite failed to persuade me that it has to be a Leica - and that's after using Leicas with pleasure for most of 40 years.  The strongest argument in the second installment is that a Leica will not embarrass you in high society. That's true - provided you haven't customised it with a pink kid covering and tattoos - but it's equally true of the other three cameras I mentioned.
