Steve Ash Posted May 29, 2009 Author Share #21 Posted May 29, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) There are some advantages to using film instead or in addition to digital. Contrary to popular belief, there are economic advantages for using film; especially when it comes to long-term storage. Show her this article: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/23/business/media/23steal.html You can use an M7 as a back-up to your M8. Digital cameras go through batteries quickly, whereas the M7's batteries will likely last several months (and sometimes years, depending on use). There are still places where film is easier to find than memory cards. Instead of an M7, I probably would have opted for an MP or another M with a mechanical shutter as they are fully operable without batteries. Very interesting article and good argument. Actually I make a print of the digital captures that I like most and those which I regard as important for me to look back to when I am old. But I think too many take this issue not serious enough. Advertisement Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Hi Steve Ash, Take a look here How to tell my wife.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Steve Ash Posted May 29, 2009 Author Share #22 Posted May 29, 2009 You bought an M7 - and a used one, at that. Eliot Spitzer bought a whore - over and over and over again. You might point out to your bethrothed one that your shopping habits could definitely be worse... I will not stress too much that it is used as it is like new and still holds one year Leica guarantee. But I am very sure that I did better than Spitzer who wasted more money for few hours fun only. mhulbert Posted May 29, 2009 Share #23 Posted May 29, 2009 I just put together an SLR system based on a R6.2 and ROM lenses for a 'birds and bees' trip this fall. QUOTE] Not sure what that is, but it sounds rather rude . . .
redbaron Posted May 30, 2009 Share #24 Posted May 30, 2009 Hide the camera, ask her advice about this really great deal you just spotted and let her make the 'obvious' choice. This routine comes with risks, though. If she says no, you're screwed.

andalus Posted May 30, 2009 Share #26 Posted May 30, 2009 What"s this? Why should any guy be intimidated by a wife? If you earned the money, or it's YOUR money, you can do what you darn well please with it. Period. If the lady objects, tell her she's skating on thin ice. I was married a while back and the dame got upset because I bought my dear son (from a previous marriage) a car and did not buy her one. She already had one. I told her "marriage was not about money and that children come first." She did not like that and we divorced soonafter. Good riddance I say... NZDavid Posted May 30, 2009 Share #28 Posted May 30, 2009 Show her classic cars and compare costs. May not work, though -- she may want one. Or show her this to show how restrained you really are: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/customer-forum/75943-how-many-leica-do-you-have.html
abrewer Posted May 30, 2009 Share #29 Posted May 30, 2009 Purchase of a used M7 is an investment; one that you won't lose money on the resell later, so she can't be angry that you've spent money you'll never see back Just take some shots and get them developed: the Leica colors will catch her eye and you'll soon be wondering who is borrowing your kit (it will be her) Then you can, as someone pointed out above, buy another for yourself See how easy this is? andalus Posted May 30, 2009 Share #32 Posted May 30, 2009 Right, Andy. But I do not like tyrannies of any kind. And marriage can be just that. Takes a rare woman to let a guy breathe, and vice versa.

Steve Ash Posted May 30, 2009 Author Share #36 Posted May 30, 2009 Tell her wife about the white M8 you didn't buy. You did, in fact, not buy any white M8's lately, didn't you? Hm, may be I should have bought the white one. It is very fancy, fashion like and - most important for her - it is digital. By the way I have told her about my new purchase... The analog thing is a little bit irritating for her...I hope she is getting over it when the prints are in her hand. But the time delay between the click and the photos in hand is definite a disadvantage in this kind of situations. Thanks to my lovely wife. Enjoy your Leica gear and great photography Steve
tomasis7 Posted May 30, 2009 Share #37 Posted May 30, 2009 I see films are the problem, not M7. Thanks god. Indeed film is fun, learn her darkroom stuffs maybe she will hook up. otherwise, buy white m8 to wife as compensation for your m7 and busy hours in darkroom

abrewer Posted May 31, 2009 Share #39 Posted May 31, 2009 This thread reminds me of the time I bought a new pair of speakers, expensive audiophile speakers I had them delivered to the office where they sat for four, maybe six months, in a corner still on the skids, boxed One day my secretary walked in and asked me "When are you going to take those things home?" I replied, "As soon as my wife says I can have them."
