One more - WATE code strip on CV 15mm 4.5

2009-05-28-M-coder-cut-V1-d.jpg

This image show the strip before I used a pair of scissors to trim the tape down to the blue marks. Rub the strip down carefully, I put a piece of paper over the strip and rubbed it with a fingernail to prevent it from catching. (that groove is really not every deep, I think it was designed for the typical thickness of a sharpie mark.)

Again, proofs in the pudding, lens codes as a WATE on first try, it was before coded as a 21, and those lines are still under the sticker.

.

That's a good job, Bo ! Could you post a printable file of "your" ring with the correct references ? I used one (see another thread) but it was unprecise...

Why can't Zeiss and CV offer pre-coded lenses for M8 users - surely it would be a way to boost sales.?

Tony

I think there is a Leica patent issue... we, privately, can do any task we like, but I think CV/Zeiss sure would be exposed to legal action by Leica if they offer coded lenses in the market.

I thought I read in another post that a rep from Leica said only coding is done when a lens is sent for coding...no additional work unless specifically requested. Do you/others have information to believe otherwise? I'm curious since I just sent in a lens for coding (although I sent it to New Jersey in US...are they perhaps different in their practices?)

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

It is my french agent Leica who said it to me

Optics is put on a test bench for control of all parameters before being returned, and not only the pose of the coded crown.

Cost of operation = 170 Euros and 3 weeks or 1 month in waiting

I have my optics 90mm and 28 mm which need to be proved.

He said to me that Solms in principle is necessary see it, if there is a problem.

Regards

Henry

Thanks for reply. I called Leica New Jersey and they confirmed that, after coding, they routinely check focus and "clean up" before returning.

That corroborates what my dealer told me, Jeff. I sent my 35/Lux ASPH in with my trade equipment and he forwarded it to Leica, N.J. for "coding and calibration". I'm waiting for it to arrive within a few more days.

Thanks, Roger. I guess the nuance for me is that my dealer sent it "for coding"...I'm delighted that the "...and calibration" part is automatically included.

Roger,

How much it costs in the States ?
