fernando_b Posted July 4, 2006 Share #1 Posted July 4, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) My 90 elmarit R - built in '86 - is my most frequently used lens. After years of heavy handling, the focussing helicoid shows some unpleasant clearance. I have no focussing problems, the lens has no sensible tilt; the matter is only an unpleasant feeling, so I could easily ignore it. However, does someone guess how much it will cost to fix the problem? Thank you in advance, Fernando.

marknorton Posted July 4, 2006 Share #2 Posted July 4, 2006 I had the focussing ring replaced on a 90mm f2.8 Elmarit-M and it came back in pristine condition, about $280. My guess it would be similar for your lens. Solms do a great job.
wizard Posted July 4, 2006 Share #3 Posted July 4, 2006 Perhaps the only thing needed is some cleaning and regreasing, and that shouldn't be too expensive. If you send your lens to Solms, it will come back like new, but they may change parts that other servicemen still consider ok (which is not meant to imply that Solms changes parts without reason, it's just that their standard is higher), so basically it is a matter of how much money you are prepared to spend. 280 USD would be about what I'd have expected, less if no parts have to be replaced.
