holmes Posted May 27, 2009 Share #1 Posted May 27, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) in excel + condition. The dealer is reputable so I would not anticipate any problems from that end. Later service would probably be DAG. My question(s) are directed toward any M7 owners/users, past and present. How would you rate the camera? Given all conversations and repairs on previous R electrical systems? I was amazed that an R6.2 was selling for almost twice the R7. Well I have an R6.2., now for the R7. As always any help/info appreciated.
Advertisement Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Hi holmes, Take a look here The R7. Am waiting on UPS to deliver one. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Joachim123 Posted May 27, 2009 Share #2 Posted May 27, 2009 I use and R4 which I bought used in excellent condition. Only had to replace the light seals. They seem to wear out after time. At the same time had it serviced cleaned and adjusted. If the R7 is anything like the R4 you will love it. I cannot put it down. It has worked flawlessly for me. I use it with slide film and the images still knock my socks off. I would love to have an M6 as a backup but right now economically not possible. Mongo Park Posted May 27, 2009 Share #3 Posted May 27, 2009 Have had 2 R7's for the last 7 years or so. Both see regular use and have not had any problems so far with electronics or light leaks. I think Leica got it bang on with that model - so perfectly balanced (in my paws, at least). Think it should complement your R6.2. Have fun when it arrives and post some pics in due course. robert_parker Posted May 28, 2009 Share #4 Posted May 28, 2009 I've had a R7 for a number of years and can recommend it highly. Just for fun, here's a drugstore scan of two images taken yesterday
holmes Posted May 28, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted May 28, 2009 Thanks to you all for contributing information about the R7. It's one thing to read books, but when you're unable to visit the dealer and get a hands on feel. This is where other owners come in: good, bad or shoot it into space. The praise which all of you gave the R7 was certainly in keeping with the books on the R system, compendium. One of you mentioned that it will be a nice addition to my M system bag. This is the reason I got into it. More focal length. My Ms have their own purposes within limitations. As one of you mentioned that would be a sweetheart of a marriage. With my three Ms, one is a M6TTL 0.58, the other two are M7s, 0.58 and 0.72. Wearing glasses and trying to focus with an 0.85 just didn't work for me. I have the 1.25 magnifiers. They are the 28 f2 asph,35 f2 asph, the new 50 f2.5 and my 75 f 1.4. For now I have two R model lenses; a Elmar 180 f 4 with perfect glass. Hell the whole thing looks new. Last night UPS dropped off the first Leica lens with an embedded chip. The 105 -380 f 4.2 77 series filter. The Elmar takes a 55 filter. This 105-380 for those who have not seen it is magnificent. Weights a little over 5 pounds (USA), add a camera and you have a hand full!!! To me it looks brand new. I think I have accomplished my mission. To augment my Ms' by providing reach. With the two cameras, R6.2 and the R7 and the lenses just described I think I have accomplished my goal. PS. UPS is due tomorrow with the R7.
bill Posted May 28, 2009 Share #6 Posted May 28, 2009 Holmes, it sounds like you and I are on the same "trajectory"... http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/film-forum/86478-r7-beyond-ii-advice-sought.html Good light with your new acquisition Robert, super images - they really "pop". Out of interest, what lens were you using? Regards, Bill
robert_parker Posted May 28, 2009 Share #7 Posted May 28, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Congratulations Holmes - I'm sure you'll like the lightness and flexibility of the R7 mine is an excellent compliment to my M8 and it has all the features you could want in a reflex camera. Bill - Thanks for your kind comments - the lens is 180mm 2.8 APO, with the 2x converter attached to take it to 360mm handheld. This incarnation of the 180mm lens is one that I would recommend to anyone. My other two favourites are the 60mm macro, which is a little gem of a lens with superlative performance and the 90mm AA, which is well known in its own right. jaapv Posted May 29, 2009 Share #8 Posted May 29, 2009 Nothing wrong with the R7. The size difference to the R4-R6 series is hardly noticeable and the camera is as robust as they come. I had one for years and it received quite a bashing, as I used it mainly for bush-trekking, but it is the only R cameraI ever owned(except for the R 3, long ago) that did not break down at one point or another.
