John Maio Posted November 5, 2006 Share #8 Posted November 5, 2006 I still have to see pictures from M8 I like, this specific images look like it has been taken with Fuji F30... I wonder if, after crunching down the DNG images to JPG size, one can really make that assessment? I'd love to be able to get a DNG of one of these images. grober Posted November 5, 2006 Share #9 Posted November 5, 2006 Holy Rain Drops. Batman! Did you somehow use a close-up lens over your 90mm for that shot? -g
leicaleica Posted November 5, 2006 Author Share #10 Posted November 5, 2006 No attachments, no tripod. BTW, it's the sprinkler. Haven't had any rain here in Southern California for months. Best, G.C.

waileong Posted November 6, 2006 Share #14 Posted November 6, 2006 The ease of use is nice, I handled one too at the launch, but your second pix had lots of blown out highlights...
gogopix Posted November 6, 2006 Share #15 Posted November 6, 2006 Well, in number 2 there is definitely blooming in the out of focus areas, and some of the circles aren't perfecrtly round. I suspect a sensor proble with handling the low light. In number 3 there is definitely multiple, off center micro-banding. This is the first I have seen, and lead me to want to cancel my order. It could be overflow from the specular reflections, but it is certainly more annoying than simple chrominance noise. Strange that this artifact is slanted as they usually have either vertical or horizaontal aspect. Now on number 1, we have a REal prblem since I know that species is really red, and the Wb as others have complained is Way off.......... :-) :-) :-) Just kidding :-) Nice images. who says Rf can't do macro!! I am still waiting for mine, but please, don't wait on my account ENJOY regards Victor
leicaleica Posted November 6, 2006 Author Share #16 Posted November 6, 2006 Thanks, Victor, I like your attitude. One can focus on perceived lack of perfection, or one can strive for perfection, realizing that it may not be attainable or even necessary. Even earning money with rangefinders is possible, as Sean Reid and others have demonstrated, and can be enjoyable, but some posters on the German side of the forum don't necessarily agree that the two can go hand. And working around the limitations of each camera has been with us ever since photography began. Capitalizing on the strengths of each system would be a more productive approach. I'm having fun, in any case, and this camera is a clear advance in what is possible in our striving. G.C.
frc Posted November 6, 2006 Share #17 Posted November 6, 2006 Digital Kodachrome, saturated, fat and very appealing. Is my Lux 35 asph going to do this? Or my Elm 90? I do hope so. OTOH, flowers in beatifull lighting conditions isn't what I do. Lightsources are almost always in the image content with what I do. So........... I'm afraid of BANDING! One thing there is that I'm not afraid of, Leica will fix this problem. And then,....... I'll be able to use this magnificent camera.

I'll be able to use this magnificent camera. the Other 1% of the time. Don't forget the 99% great shots you will get that have NO banding, streaming, streaking (oops - maybe that's something different :-)) or whatever you want to call it, problem. frc Posted November 6, 2006 Share #19 Posted November 6, 2006 Hi Victor, Well, talking about over exposure, this whole "banding thing". Let's not turn this thread into one about this subject, to much over exposed already, to my belief. I love what I see at the beginnig of this thread, many pictures i'll make with an M8 will turn out to be equally beautiful as the ones shown here. That I trust. Looking at what causes these absurd magenta stripes, over exposed light sources in the image, me, I consider myself a potential victom to this problem. Most of my shooting is in situations where I have no control over the lightfall, don't use a flash, indoors, suspicious looking photographer, what does this man want, fast framing before my "subject" starts acting. Etc, etc, etc,..... But don't get me wrong, although I may fall in the small category that may realy have problems with this bug, bashing on Leica for having a problem with a brand new digital product, like many in other threads do, does not fit into my system. I can live with the slight disappointment having to wait only a little bit longer before I can use the viewfinder whilst having digital capture. Looking at Leicaleica's pictures enthousiasme only grows, banding or no banding. For the time being, long live film, long live the MP. :-) cheers to all, Fr.
