Advertisement Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Hi baloo, Take a look here M8 color. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
WillGood Posted November 6, 2006 Share #22 Posted November 6, 2006 I am no colorexpert at all.. but when using C1 with the M8 profile .. the purple/ magenta is all over the place .... which is far less the case if i use the simple Adobe RGB profile. This are 100% crops look at the magenta Halo around the fingers in the 2nd picture. Nr 1 is converted with adobe RGB, Nr 2 with M8 profile. Probably been said, but its worth repeating: If you are you used to using a digital camera system with a strong AA filter (ie canon), you will probably be a little disapointed when you view M8 images at 100% on srceen: the CA, chroma, and occasional color shifts from backlighting or lens issues( often the magenta/green type) will be evident. It s not evident to me yet how much Leica has minimized these issues. This is the trade-off for the sharpness of not processing with AA fil. The good news is most of this 100% CA/ chroma does not show up in prints, and there are obviously ways to deal with major issues like magenta shifts. I dont have an M8, but I'm following the developement with great interest! I use Kodak SLRc s (no AA filter), and I suggest M8 owners can search solutions for many of these issues on the kodak SLR forum at DPreview if they wish for more info. hope this is helpful, Cheers, William

j. borger Posted November 6, 2006 Author Share #24 Posted November 6, 2006 To J. Borger Just to know the two image for donwload were they set as black and white within the camera as jpg black and white with raw? curious Yes I prefer B&W, in fact shoot B&W 98% of the time .. so for a complete B&W workflow i choose -DNG + jpeg recording -set colorsaturation to B&W (this only affects the jpeg) With this settings you also get B&W pictures shown on the M8 LCD & a B&W jpegs for making initial selection of images in any application after downloading the pictures In Capure one .... i use B&W profiles (from JFI labs) as camera profiles... so also in Capture one i only see B&W images!!! If i want to go to colorpictures .. i choose the M8 generic profile as camera profile .... and the raws are shown in color in Capture one.
papimuzo Posted November 6, 2006 Share #25 Posted November 6, 2006 .............. I think a better workflow is to stick to profiles related to your camera or close (like the R8/R9), tweak them if you need and do other color related corrections using the appropriate tools. Pascal, how can we tweak a profile? Is it possible to do it in C1 LE version or only with the PRO version? Thanks for comments.
pascal_meheut Posted November 6, 2006 Share #26 Posted November 6, 2006 According to their web site, this is possible in the Pro version only. You can download a trial version, do you tweaking in it and then use it in LE.

Jamie Roberts Posted November 6, 2006 Share #28 Posted November 6, 2006 I see none on my files using recent lenses (and the 50mm/2) And I see none of that birefringeance on the DMR (also no aa filter)
sinwen Posted November 6, 2006 Share #29 Posted November 6, 2006 I guess it is due to the lens, it could be interesting to know if this Noctilux is bit coded or not to trace out if the coding take care of the matter through the software.

No it is not bid coded ..... My point from the 100% crops, and the reason i posted them, is that the magenta halo is far more pronounced using the generic M8 profile than the Adobe RGB or any other colorprofile. Just another pointer that that M8 profile shows some nasty behaviour! The good thing is ... it is fixable in software!
