This is my first post,so please be gentle....I was wondering if anyone has found a merchant in the USA that has the classic leather case for the D-Lux 2/3 in stock. Most of the online sources I've found are in the EU,or do not have any available.

Thanks..

Classic leather case available at Ffordes (Scotland)

They are at https://secure.ffordes.com/index.htm

Leather case shown at b&h is not the classic case Leica sell and I suspect you want.

They will export. Mine cost £53 seperately but got it part of D Lux 3 kit.

Take a look at their used web site too - heaven for Leicas.

If we're talking about the same one, I would have by instinct called it an ERC - it would be possible to take images without removing the camera - but there's nothing actually holding the camera in, so in practice you would remove it without thinking.

I better jump back in and correct a potenntially misleading statement - the case, whilst it mimics an old style Ever Ready Case, which is how I've described it above, in practice works as Tony describes it - you could take a photograph from the case but you'd have to slide it part way out to operate the shutter and it would not be possible to view the screen with the case in place, so you would have to shoot blind. In practice, as said previously, whilst you might manage this a couple of times, as there's nothing to hold the camera in, it would most likely allow the case to fall clear if you had too many goes at it. It might be possible to modify the standard case to allow proper use but it would be a shame to cut about what is a nice piece of work.

Here's a picture of the case open so you can see what I mean.

Ps. English camera shops are providing the case free with the camera as a new purchase.

Thanks for all the responses to my inquiry about this case. The photos supplied by Robert

were extremely helpful. I guess I'll just wait until a US dealer has them,as the shipping costs from overseas are usually prohibitively expensive.

The case is very compact with no space for spare battery or a card.

Here's a picture of the belt loop which I hope is clear enough.

Tony Rose at Popflash has the Black Leather Soft Case that I ordered with my D-Lux3. It's construction is similar to the Brown Case, but has no shoulder strap. It does have a belt loop, and the front of the case is held closed with a magnet. It also has a slot inside for a memory card.

It is a Leica Accessory Kit, and also comes with a Battery. I havent asked, but he will most likely have the Brown Case also when Available. Here is a link ...

I got a screen protector from Belkin, which was intended for an IPAQ - if you cut it to size in advance, then the backing peels off and you can apply it to the screen. I've done this with my Digilux 2 and in that case the process appears to be non-destructive (please test or make sure first !!)

I don't know that it was anti reflective - I wanted something which was primarily scratch resistant - but it's never posed a problem in use with my Digilux 2 - the cost from Staplres in the UK was about £9.99 which I guess would be about US$16.99

Alright, PDA's hould have some good enough protectors.

I was also looking at a portable gaming console's (Nintendo DS) "Hori" brand protector, which is priced at app equiv of $10, anti-reflective and scratch resistant (the console is used with a stylus).

'I'm just not quite sure yet whether this protector is large enough for the D-Lux.
