So I was ordering a couple of lattes to go at my local café, chrome M8 slung rakishly over one shoulder, when a young woman touched my elbow and said: "What a beautiful camera you have!"

Not quick-witted enough to say either "I have a family waiting at home for me!" nor "You should see it with the 90-summicron attached!" adding with a raised eyebrow: "The extending hood version!"

No, the best I could muster was a bashful "Errrm...well...thanks."

She just smiled and added "It's really lovely" then went back to sit with her friends.

So the M8 really IS a babe-magnet, after all.

I had a very similar story at an exhibition. With the added bonus of having the retractable Heliar 50 all out... so I definitely agree with you!

and just in the last two weeks I've had 'Monsieur, nice camera' in Paris, and 'I like that your camera is digital but it's designed to appear an antique' from a shop assistant here in London. Although neither were 'babes' it certainly attracts more attention than my M4-P ever has.

It's definitely a good-looking, unthreatening camera. In mortal fear of my life I took my newly purchased M8.2 out of my bag and put it on the table in front of my wife, awaiting her righteous wrath. She said, "Oh, that's really nice! It looks like my Dad's old camera!" Somehow, the fact that it looks more like an antique than a bona fide gadget removed the sting. (Well - perhaps "partially neutralised" rather than "removed"...)

My various Leica's have photographed lots of art models over the past six years... I haven't counted, but many.

A few.. usually the ones with art degrees or who are themselves photographers... recognize the camera immediately. Many more ask "what kind of camera is that..." because after all, they've been standing in front of Nikons and Canons a whole lot, and not much else.

When most photographers act like sheep, it's very easy for us to stand out as individuals willing to think independently. What's even better is that the people who do notice, while they may be relatively few in number, are often from the more intelligent and aware portion of the overall population. Not sure about the rest of you, but those are the types of "babes" I'd prefer to be noticed by.

There are several examples of what a Leica can do when it's allowed to look at an attractive unclothed woman, on my web site: knomad-one
