NZDavid Posted May 16, 2009 Share #1 Posted May 16, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Manapouri Underground Power Station, Fiordland, New Zealand, M6, 50 'cron, Fuji 400NHP. Built in the heart of a national park, this hydro-electric power station caused considerable controversy when it was proposed more than 30 years ago, however its design and construction managed to preserve the natural environment. It is also an impressive engineering feat as well as a tourist attraction. Visitors don't usually get to see the generator hall, though -- these shots are from a magazine feature. stuny Posted May 16, 2009 Share #3 Posted May 16, 2009 David - Excellent. When we drove through the area I noticed a "Danger - Falling Truck Zone" sign which had been placed there by people at the power station as a joke after one worker failed to set his parking brake and his truck rolled off the cliff.
