angeche Posted May 14, 2009 Share #1 Posted May 14, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well, after loading a film (for the second time) in my recently adquired leica, the shutter releases when winding. This does not happens always, but it happens even when I took out the film. After reloading it, it seems that the shutter curtain is not released if I wind very carefully. Two questions. First, whether this is a glitch that is easily repaired (I see a stop lever in the lower part of the camera that may be the cause of the problem). Second, what are the consequences of the glitch. My guess is that everytime that happens, I loose a part of the film. So, say, if it happens 4 times in a 24 film roll, well, I will only be able to take around 20 pics. Help/advice appreciated Regards Jose M.
Advertisement Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 Hi angeche, Take a look here Leica IIIb shutter releases when winding. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted May 14, 2009 Share #2 Posted May 14, 2009 Have you positioned the rewind lever corrrectly when winding on the film? And you aren't snagging the shutter dial? Assuming these arent' the issues then the only answer is a CLA, which isn't that expensive.
doubice Posted May 15, 2009 Share #3 Posted May 15, 2009 As James mentions above - this often happens if the rewind lever is not in the correct position. On the IIIb (don't have one in front of me now - am in the office) the lever has an 'R' (Rückspulen - Rewind) and 'A' (Aufzug - Advance). It should be moved all the way back to the 'A'; if it is not posititioned correctly or, pointing to the front of the camera, the shutter will fire during advance. angeche Posted May 16, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted May 16, 2009 Thanks Dunk!. I will check tomorrow but I do recall I loaded the camera with the film before changing the position of the rewind lever to A, so maybe that was the problem.....Thanks guys! These old ladies are quite delicate!
