This thing will be announced on 15/06 and on sale in the 1st week of July. This is what Leica should have done IMO. lemalk Posted May 13, 2009 Share #3 Posted May 13, 2009 Hmm....this little gem can't show up quickly enough. It'll overtake my desire for an D-Lux 4 or G1 rather quickly the minute it rears its head. I just hope it doesn't change *too* much from the prototype and get dummied up with logos all over the place.
NZDavid Posted May 14, 2009 Share #4 Posted May 14, 2009 No optical viewfinder though. Much nicer to have numbers rather than icons on the dial.
stevelap Posted May 14, 2009 Share #5 Posted May 14, 2009 Whatever the finished article is going to look like it's definitely coming soon. This from the official Olympus E-Newsletter 3/2009 this morning: "The countdown is on: only a few weeks remain before Olympus’ first Micro Four Thirds camera hits the world stage! If you want to be one of the first to access details about the new model and the revolutionary Micro Four Thirds System, now’s your chance!" Here's hoping for an accessory optical viewfinder.... and perhaps an 'M' lens adaptor:).
ajthornbury Posted May 14, 2009 Share #6 Posted May 14, 2009 Conversations at Focus on Imaging, the Olympus Rep indicated that it will have an EVF. It will stand or fall by the EVF quality, but will probably use the same one as Panasonic's G1. Despite what some think, the Leica D2's EVF is quite acceptable, and that is a Panasonic one. luigi bertolotti Posted May 14, 2009 Share #7 Posted May 14, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) The image is about the same that was seen at Photokina... hopefully they have made something to complete the manikin... ; I think that M adapter could be exactly the same that it already available for G1... after all M4/3 is a standard mount. Very attractive item, anyway ... maybe, at the moment, the only camera that could be regarded as a sort of "Digital CL"...
mhoersch Posted May 14, 2009 Share #8 Posted May 14, 2009 The live view monitor is the EVF, and the M adapter has been around since shortly after the introduction of the G1. Looks like a cool gadget if they can resist the temptation of putting 300 special functions into 50 menus.

I can be as you say, but in this case I think it makes this camera much less attractive... taking pics looking at an LCD is an operation that many (me included) really dislike. dwind Posted May 14, 2009 Share #10 Posted May 14, 2009 So, do I buy an m8 or wait for this? Think it will have ois? How will it handle a larger lens like a 50 - 200? Just more decisions.
carstenw Posted May 14, 2009 Share #11 Posted May 14, 2009 So where are all the people who are giving Leica a very hard time about releasing so little information about the S2, and not making it available in every little European country? Olympus has released nothing on this camera, other than a mockup and photos if it.

sdai Posted May 14, 2009 Author Share #13 Posted May 14, 2009 It really is about different levels of expectations. Some people (including me myself) put a lot of criticism and speculation upon the S2 because we think the S2 is a real big deal ... I don't think a lot of people who frequent the S2 forum will actually buy it, in fact the camera can only grab attention from folks on this very single forum (perhaps also another one or two smaller forums) as far as I can see. Since everybody here probably already knows that I'm hypercritical about the S2 I feel I must explain that's because I wish they could do stuff that I think is correct. If they do, I don't care what I have said and I may actually bite the bullet. If they don't, why do I must spend my money? The darned camera needs to beat the crap out of competition not only in practical use but also on numbers in specifications on paper. Second best simply means no good. Down to the Olympus level, there's no thinking process ...
Riley Posted May 14, 2009 Share #14 Posted May 14, 2009 ....or they know who to avoid...... it will have IS, this seems certain speculation seems to follow the notion this series will be named Pen, these associations have been made due to the presence of Pen models on display at recent trade shows, see below no OVF from here, more applicable to rumour: no EFV there are supposed to be lenses in train this year, for starters a 14-42 kit and a 17/2.8 another body at the end of the year, said to be black **************************************************************** real information is somewhat rare, its kept tighter than a weapons contract. Panasonic have a more compact mFT for the end of the year Leica seem apparently disinterested... Oly likes to fool around like Leica, giving hints that can be taken several ways. They have said some definite things in the interviews, like the IS in the E-620 is a derivative of the one for mFT, the final product will not look like that mock up shown, that they didn't think that EVFs were quite "there" yet and they are working on a high speed EVF. The rumor that I don't care for is that the first body to be released in June will not have an eye level finder, but the one planned for December will. I think they are still aiming for the "reluctant to move up to a DSLR" crowd within the 92 million P&S owners. The DSLR & DRF owners will have to be patient and the new EVF might still be in the oven. Bob

Looks and sounds like just another "hold at arms length" P&S, but with a larger sensor and exchangeable lenses.
hector_jorge Posted May 15, 2009 Share #17 Posted May 15, 2009 I´m traveling to Europe soon and I am thinking to buy there an Oly 620 or a Pana GH1. But, should I wait for the new M 4/3 Oly? Anyway, in the technological race there will be ever a new, and maybe better, camera ahead. I have a D Lux 3, and its lack of viewfinder is not practical for me.
