TSK Posted November 4, 2006 Share #3 Posted November 4, 2006 Thanks a lot but, to be honest, I found these DNG files very discouraging ... in fact, the JPEGs from the Digilux 3 seem to have a lot better AWB results and show more pleasing colors. passion Posted November 4, 2006 Author Share #4 Posted November 4, 2006 I agree that AWB is still an issue with most digital cameras. Canon tried to adress the issue by seperately measuring the WB externally on their 1Ds (not MkII) with some humble results. The only camera I know that does AWB quite well is the Sony F-828. This may be due to the 4th colour (emerald) filter on the sensor, a technology that wasn't continued either. While the pixel race may now slow down, noise, dynamic range and AWB still show space for improvement. Cheers and enjoy
erl Posted November 4, 2006 Share #5 Posted November 4, 2006 Speaking as a non-technophile, I suspect that 'auto anything' leaves room for serious improvement. If you want the best result, control the parameters manually. Am I being dumb or is my assumption that DNG files are RAW. If so, white balance does not come into the equation. That, along with all other parameters are controlled by you in your RAW processor. And RAW beats jpeg hands down. A few drinks under the belt tonight, so if I am 'up the kack', please understand! Cheers, oops don't spill any! Erl LOL
passion Posted November 4, 2006 Author Share #6 Posted November 4, 2006 Concerning the AWB I was referring to the jpg's that are shown on the same site. Beautiful weather today, I think I'll got out take/make some pictures.
kamilsukun Posted November 4, 2006 Share #7 Posted November 4, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is a very useful link. Many thanks. M8 files are clearly leading the way to what should be done. All roads go to not Rome this time. But an M8 Regards, Kamil Sukun
scott kirkpatrick Posted November 4, 2006 Share #8 Posted November 4, 2006 These are nice and detailed, but not inspiring otherwise. Firmware was 1.04, so they are also rather old. scott
