d2mini Posted May 7, 2009 Share #1 Posted May 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey all, first post here. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with BOTH the D-Lux 4 and any of the Ricoh models: GRD, GRD II, GX-100, GX-200??? I own a GX-100 which I love but I have been eyeing the D-Lux 4 and the Sigma DP-1, both possible contenders to "upgrade" from my Ricoh. One thing Ricoh really got right is the user interface. They make it so easy and so close to the handling of a dslr. I love the IQ for a p&s as well, and even though it has high noise over iso 400, I find that it works very well for b/w images. The large fovean sensor on the DP2 is very enticing, but both the new focal length of 42mm (I tend to favor wider) and the fact that even with improvements over the DP1 it probably still doesn't come close to the performance/handling of the Ricoh, has me leaning towards the Leica... or seeing what Ricoh does next. So if anyone could offer up some guidance and experience in comparing image quality and user interface/handling between the Leica and Ricoh I would very much appreciate it. I have already PM'd Sparkie because I saw him mention he was a grd owner in one of his posts, but would love to hear from others as well. A google search did turn up a D-Lux 3 vs GRD review but I know there have been a few substantial changes made to the new D-Lux 4. Thanks!
Advertisement Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Hi d2mini, Take a look here D-Lux 4 and GRD/GX. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jankap Posted May 9, 2009 Share #2 Posted May 9, 2009 The user interface of the Digilux-4 is excellent. Well chosen double functions, good controll of the menu, etc. I have no experience with Ricoh. Jan
m8point2 Posted June 14, 2009 Share #3 Posted June 14, 2009 I'm also interested in comparison of GRD2 and DLux-4. I'm fine with the fixed 28mm lens on the Ricoh. How does the manual focusing capability compare for these two cameras? I like to zone focus for street shooting. How does the noise compare at higher ISOs and low light? Thanks, El
Michiel Fokkema Posted June 15, 2009 Share #4 Posted June 15, 2009 I have a GX100 and LX3. For me the LX3 is a much better camera. Faster lens, less noise, better IQ. But the GX100 has some nice features which the LX3 has not. Like the stepped zoom. But then again the dynamic B&W mode of the LX3 rocks too. Bottom line is that the GX100 ended up as the camera for the children and I use the LX3. Cheers, Michiel Fokkema
paulpp Posted June 23, 2009 Share #5 Posted June 23, 2009 Have just moved from a GX200 to a D-LUX4 and for me the main issue was that the noise is now much less. The D-LUX is also slightly smaller and a better fit in my pocket.
