R7 and beyond

Y'know, ever since they first came out, I have had a yen for an R7. The R8/9 have never really interested me - I know they are the last word in ergonomics for Leica SLRs but they are just a wee bit too bulky for my tastes. The R7 - the last of the "classic"-shaped R bodies - has always held a certain fascination.

So there I was in Guildford on Saturday, minding my own business. I just happened, as you do, to glance in the window of my regular "pusher". They had an R-E in there the other day, with a 35mm Summicron - I nearly succumbed then, but a dodgy diaphragm held me back - and there in the window was an R7, it's shiny nose (a 50mm Summicron) pressed up against the glass, whimpering softly as it sat among the melted plastic blobs of Canon and Nikon's digital delights.

I went in - I tried it - I walked out with it.

I intended to run a roll through it immediately, but the Morris dancers had packed up for the day. I'll finish off the first roll as soon as I can, and see whether I have a lemon or a diamond.

I know that buying into the R line right now is akin to buying shares in a bank, but I really don't care. I shall have some fun with it, maybe add another lens or two whilst they are cheap (suggestions?) and generally enjoy myself. :D

Regards,

Bill

Bill, Congratulations on your new toy.

I had some Bradford & Bingley shares, I almost bought more when they had their rights offer. Fortunatlely the shares I lost were 'free' when they converted to a bank but it was £1200 or so I'd earmarked for home improvements.

Meanwhile my R3 and lenses are still there, still working, still giving me great results. So no, you cannot compare buying a Leica R to investing in a bank! OK you won't see any new Leica lenses being released for it but so what?

Bill,

....enjoy your new toy :)

I use my R7 very often - great camera.

btw: it is better to buy a R7 - than any fantasy "shares" from the NYSE or LSE casinos,

note - all Banks & Brocker are casinos and extreme tricky, they want your money only
