maurometallo Posted April 30, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 30, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Those are some photographs of the Nuclear Power Plant in Pickering, Ontario, a city I have recently visited for work reasons. This enormous structure (Photo #1) dominates the landscape and is visible from everywhere, even a very far distance (Photo#2). It strangely sits litterally in the middle of town, surrounded by houses, and they also built a playground extremely near it (Photo #3). Comments are always welcome. Thanks for wathching. pauledell Posted April 30, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 30, 2009 Mauro, I like your pictures especially No. 1. What is the wind generator for in picture 1? Maybe it is a backup for the nuke reactor? Paul
audidudi Posted April 30, 2009 Share #3 Posted April 30, 2009 No. 1 is my favorite as well ... sort of reminds me of a similar scene in Morro Bay, California, except that instead of a playground, you have the city's downtown area, some docks, and a beach. Kind of eerie but at the same time, kind of interesting...
maurometallo Posted May 1, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted May 1, 2009 Paul and audidudi; Thank you for your comments. I believe (although I'm not quite sure) that the windmill is used for some sort of back-up...
Max Alfy Posted May 1, 2009 Share #5 Posted May 1, 2009 I like #1 also Mauro. Not a windmill, but just a fan blowing the effluents in a safe direction? Max

SJP Posted May 23, 2009 Share #13 Posted May 23, 2009 Interesting pictures, it looks bleak & desolate. I can recall visting the small NL plant in Dodewaard when it was still up & running. What struck me was the extreme peace & quit inside - basically only the hum of the generator. I believe they had about 3 or 4 operators on duty 24x7 - that was it. Even an espresso machine is more exiting from a technological point of view. At least if all runs as intended.
