I had a collapsible summicron with scratched front lens polished and recoated by a well regarded repair service here in USA. It is very nicely cleaned and coated, but the images from it are very poor, much worse than from my late version summicron or the collapsible summicron pictures shown on this thread. Does polishing and recoating of a lens typically make it much less sharp?

No, but not calibrating the lens afterwards correctly does!

I have had a similar experience unfortunately.

I posted this on another thread, but wanted to show you since you are having this problem. Since this is a new lens for me, I got this 50mm Summicron collapsible from 1955, last week, can you tell me if this is sharper than what you had before the cleaning?
