robbi@laurenson.com Posted April 28, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 28, 2009 My guess is it's the card - mount it as a disk and run a disk verification tool on it. If it passes, reformat in the camera and try again. In this case I hope it doesn't pass otherwise the issue points to the camera itself.
jaapv Posted April 28, 2009 Share #3 Posted April 28, 2009 Do you have a reason to use such a large card? Just imagine you had 900 (important) images on it when this happened:eek:. Better to use a number of smaller cards. Smaller cards are more stable too.
prk60091 Posted April 28, 2009 Share #4 Posted April 28, 2009 when i first started taking digital photos I had a CD burner and CD's held 600MB or so i bought a bunch of 512MB SD cards.. therefore each card my "roll of film" and the back up CD was my negative I have maintained that system to this day... it pays off... i was in Hawaii in August.. i put a fresh SD card in the camera ... shot off half a dozen photos and then there was some sorta error the card was obviously corrupted and would not take any further photos... i took the card out and put in a fresh card and voila i was in business again... i was out a 6 photos and a few minutes and a few bucks on a dead card yes i have quite a few CD's but photos are easy to find. adcalonte Posted April 28, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted April 28, 2009 Okay so I was able to recover most of them through a recovery software. What a relief but the card is going back to the store and returned. Maybe 16gb is too much? but i shoot videos with it also and i need something big. Any SD card suggestions for say an 8GB card? What do most people here use that hasnt given them a headache so far? Thanks!
burkey Posted April 28, 2009 Share #6 Posted April 28, 2009 To be honest I use only 2 gig SD cards in both my DL4 and my M8. As has previously been said, it's just too risky to use larger cards. 'Glad you got most of your images back. Good luck. . . . Burkey
robbi@laurenson.com Posted April 28, 2009 Share #7 Posted April 28, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Not a lot of shots taken yet, but I'm running a 32GB Kingston card at the moment with no issues.
Nicoleica Posted April 28, 2009 Share #8 Posted April 28, 2009 I prefer Lexar cards myself, and have never had any problems with one yet. Also, with the 8GB Lexar card you get a free SDHC card reader at the moment. For use in my DL4, I tend to use 4GB cards as a rule, but 8GB cards on occasion. robbi@laurenson.com Posted April 28, 2009 Share #9 Posted April 28, 2009 Yeah, 32GB is definitely overkill. Drive mode definitely makes itself useful with a chunk of space like that, though. I have a bunch of MP3s on it as well .
