Photoskeptic Posted April 27, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 27, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Looking for those who have owned or used both. I have finally given up on my Fotoman 69 and it's relatively short lenses and am looking to replace it with an R camera to use with long telephoto lens. (I gave up on the MF because I get better files, believe it or not, with my M8) Thanks for all replies.
Advertisement Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Hi Photoskeptic, Take a look here R7 or R8?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tobey bilek Posted April 30, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 30, 2009 R7 has no known bugs except a weak stop down preview. R8 had some issues with rollers scratching film, but most probably have been repaired by now. Ergonimcs are personel and subjective. My small hands like the R7. Parts availability is better for the R8
Photoskeptic Posted April 30, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted April 30, 2009 Thanks, Tobey. Exactly what I was looking for. Frankly, I'm looking to trade my Fotoman 69 with two lenses for an R7 or R8 body and a 180 f2.8 ROM. Anyone interested?
Guest Jockele Posted April 30, 2009 Share #4 Posted April 30, 2009 NO ! better is the R10
roguewave Posted April 30, 2009 Share #5 Posted April 30, 2009 I think the R8 is a far superior camera than the R7, but both work quite well. In using long focal length lenses, the R8/R9 bodies are the ticket. The price difference betrween the R8 & R7 is not that great, but the utility & performance is. I have 3 R8 bodies & 2 I use for film. I have never had any problem of any kind. The camera is PERFECT. You will always love this camera, as I doubt anyone, anywhere will ever make a better 35 mm slr film camera ever again.
Photoskeptic Posted May 1, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted May 1, 2009 Thanks, Ben. I appreciate your input. I'll concentrate on an R8. Frankly, I think Leica hit a home run on the design. I had an R5 and didn't really care for it. It was adequate but never gave me the vibes I got from using my M bodies.
melanger Posted May 3, 2009 Share #7 Posted May 3, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I looked at each of these cameras and bought the R7. I've been extremely happy with it. The R8 has a fine reputation, but it's far too bulky and uncomfortable for my hands.
stunsworth Posted May 3, 2009 Share #8 Posted May 3, 2009 I don't have an R7, but I have an R4. In my case I find my R8 much more comfortable than the R4. Which if nothing else goes to show that there's no right or wrong answer, only individual preference.
atournas Posted May 3, 2009 Share #9 Posted May 3, 2009 I only have the R7 (and an R6.2). I would love to own an R8--only good words have I heard for it! Yet, if for some reason (money, availability of mint body) you go for the R7, be sure you will have chosen an outstanding R Leica as well. Expect only flawless functions from it. hamey Posted May 4, 2009 Share #10 Posted May 4, 2009 Having both the R7/8 I find them wonderful cameras to use. But I think the R8 handles the low light better. Ken.
pleeson Posted May 6, 2009 Share #11 Posted May 6, 2009 I found the R8 to have a brighter viewfinder than the other R3-6 bodies. Almost as good as the Leicaflex SL !!
